The axle just snaps back in, in order to do this you must push on the axle straight ahead, if you are at an angle u will not get it to snap back into the internal groove, there is no way around it, u just keep trying until it snaps back into place, have done 100's of these so do know what i am talking about here.

95 Jeep Grand Cherokee whole front axle rebuild, now in drive from a stop until about 30mph it makes a large clunking noise why?

If every thing was done correctly, then I would put it on a lift and see where the noise was coming from. You may have bad universal joints or other drive line problems.

Snapping sound from front left tire

I'm thinking you have a cv (constant velocity) joint problem.. If so, you'll most likely need to take it to a shop. The cv joints are the joints in the drive axles coming out the side of your trans-axle and going to the front wheel. They are most likely enclosed with rubber boots. These often need changed or serviced on high-mileage vehicles.

How do I remove an axle from a cv joint

Use a vise,to put the axle in,and pull, holding pressure on the knuckle(cv)and hit it with a hammer pretty hard, there is a snap ring that will be holding it in,and this will allow the axle to come out of the knuckle.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 liter 4wd Front cv drive shafts

yes, they should pull out with a little effort, they have an internal lock ring on the shaft,if they don't pull out you may have to use a pry bar between the inner joint and the case to pry it out.
