You have the right idea...but I am sorry to say that you probably are right that the issue is the fuel pump and not the regulator.

You can take a fuel pressure gauge and plug it into the fuel rail and drive around and see if the fuel pressure drops off. Chances are its the demand of the engine overwhelming the fuel pump that is causing the problem. The partial tank is acting like a spring absorbing the pressure from the fuel return which was keeping the pressure up when the tank was full.

You pump should be easy enough to change...if you want to take the bed off and work on the tank in place? I am not sure if thats possible though.

Good luck and be careful!

I would make sure you have a half tank of gas then put in some STP gas treatment if the truck run better replace the fuel filter give these websites a try www.alldatadiy.com and www.autozone.com if all fails stop by your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your truck wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.

Town and Country Van running out of gas and guage says half a tank what could be the problem?

If your fuel gauge is showing you in accurate readings this is normal to all vehicles that are not used to fill-up gas full regularly but sometimes the cause of the inacuracy is due to faulty float valve in the gas tank you need to replace it

Why does my 04 caravan drink a lot of gas?

Your fuel sending unit in tank is bad,may be incorparated with fuel pump or by itself.Car isn't going to drink gas that fast unless leaking. If tank reads a half, fill up to see if it's really half empty, and if it is half full, then your driving a gas hog.

I've had a severe loss of power. There is vibration through the gear stick. Feels like lack of fuel, but is still half full. Won't go more than 30 mph.

Hi, Vibration, It could be the drive shaft is not strait anymore. Replace it. Also check you tires that they are ballanced properly. Good luck

only the mechanic can answer that, he's the one looking at the car. If he diagnosed a bad valve, get it fixed., then see if it made a difference.

Sounds like a fuel problem. I'd start by changing the fuel filter and running a can of Sea Foam Engine Treatment through the engine. With at least half a tank of gas dump half the Sea Foam in the gas tank and the other half in the crank case.
If this doesn't fix it check the fuel pump, don't just decide to change it or have it changed they can be rather expensive (depending on engine and model).
If the fuel pumps checks good and it's still happening you'll have to start looking into distributor or timing chain problems (usually not intermittent).

Sounds like the torque converter. can be tricky, new one expensive, I had the same problem, talked to a buddy who is ford master mechanic, he told me to DRAIN, the TC, then put new fluid in. He said DRAIN, and NOT flush. because if you flush, and the magnet inside is missing or screwed up, it will push all of the little pieces of metal and **** into transmission. I had the dealership do this, and it cost around 150-200. It worked, and I was lucky, cause they told me it hadad no magnet, but it worked, not shuddered since.
