I have a 1998 Pontiac grand am replaced starter

if your getting a clicking noise at the starter double check for good connections at the starter and grounds as well as the ground wire from the battery to engine. if this is good check the battery condition and load tested. if the battery checks good then you may have just gotten a bad starter.

You need to take the car to a transmission repair shop

They don't sell new transmissions, only new when car is
first built

That is not a driveway job

My 1998 Pontiac grand am's igniton willnot shut all the way off.

Two main reasons for this:

1. Dead battery - hook up jumper cables and try to turn off. Replace battery.
2. Transmission does not think the car is in Park. YOu can try to roll the car forward and slam into Park, not a real fix but may work for a while. Take to transmission shop to adjust linkage and/or replace switch.
