SOURCE: how do i replace a broken hood latch cable 2002 toyota camry

its more fiddly than hard before you start look st the cable where it joins the latch and start following it back toward the lever you may have to lift some floor mats etc and the cable should be secured with clips along the way if you think you can get it out take it with you when you go to buy the new 1 and make sure they are the same. if this helps please rate joe

if the grille screws are accessable remove the grille which should give you access to the underside of the lock, you may need a screwdriver to push the lever aside to release the hood

SOURCE: 99 toyota corrolla hood latch is broken. Can't

There is a rachet right below the hood that you can reach from radiator grill.
Take a long thin screw driver, reach it and turn that rachet.
You will hear the "click" sound and the hood will pop open.

SOURCE: Can't open 94 Suburban hood. Latch is no longer

you can open it with a long thin screwdriver. Look thru the center top of the grill. You should be able to see the cable running to the latch. Follow the cable to the end and you should be able to get in there with the screw driver and fish around to get it to unlatch. After you get it open you can tie a piece of wire to the latch sticking out of the grill to pull on and release it till you can get it repaired. Most likely the cable or pull handle is broken

My 94 toyota hood release works from inside the car but the lever under the hood broken. how do i get the hood open

U should first try as best u can to open the hood with the lever even if its jus a small part of lever. If not then and if u dont have a hood latch cover u may be able to get the hood up by unbolting the hood latch bolts through the grill. Other sugguestion would probably b a pry bar squeezed in there carefully and pry and or while u r trying to mess wit the lever that may or may not b there.

94 nissan pickup latch wont open hood?

The hood latch cable pulls a lever over towards driver's side of car to open the hood. Pulling the lever releases the hood latch.
This is the lever that is not moving over far enough to release, and the one you need to get to. You are right to think of removing the grill. Is it easy to remove? Often, someone can lay underneath and reach up with a prying tool (a screwdriver) and push that lever over. But if it's too far to reach, or if it's obstructed by parts or support pieces, just remove the grill to reach the latch.
Good luck.

How do you get the hood open on a 94 tyota camry with the latch cable borken

OH NO... That will be hard.. Where is it broken? Under the hood or at the handle? If the handle then you can get pliers and peel the casing back enough to grab the cable. At least once. Then install a new one. If under the hood., unless you can reach in and get to it from underneath? I dont know. If you can get to i just find where the cable hooked up and pull. Goood luck

My 1993 toyota pickup's hood release wont open the hood. The cable still has tension on it but the inside release is loose & flops up & down.Any suggestions.Thank you!

Stretched or frayed cable, or possible mechanism seized or broken. Try looking up under hood in latch area, as someone pulls cable lever inside, & watch what happens. You may see a piece getting pulled , and be able to get to it with a screwdriver to assist it in going further to open the latch. Then inspect cable close for conditions I mentioned above. You may be able to tighten up the slack (adjust) once the hood is up, otherwise a new cable may be necessary. If worse comes to worse, you may have to grab that slack in the cable with a pair of vise grips & give a little more pull to get it unlatched. Make sure you lube the mechanism under hood too.

Your cable anchor that holds the cable is loose or is pivoting causing your latch not to have full stroke. Hope this fixes your problem.

Hood on my 1995 Toyota Tercel won't open

Someone just successfully helped me with a similar problem. IF the cable is Not broken, ie: still taunt when one pulls the hood release lever in the car, then the latch under the hood is simply stuck. Try this. Have someone bounce/press down on the front center of the hood where the latch is located to relieve spring tension. At the same time have someone pull the Hood Release lever inside the car. This may pop open the front hood. Then after the hood opens spray WD40 on the hood latch to rid the rust which likely is the cause of the problem. BTW...don't know what you mean about the Oil Light comes on. You don't need the engine turned on to open up the front hood, at least not on my model (2door sedan).

Yes! That is the purpose of those rubber guides. They actually should be half compressed when hood is latched. Many cars have adjustments for these!
