Question about Ford Taurus

1 Answer

I have water leaking from my engine as soon as I put it in. It is leaking from the back of the engine. I have looked in my chilton's manual and it apears to be from a freeze plug or core plug. My car is a 2001 ford taurus 3.0

The core plug has rotted away and needs replacing, problem will be how too replace it, unless you have enough space to allow access for removal and replacement

Hi i have vauxhall corsa 1.2sxi twinport 2005, i recently had a mechanic run some tests because it was losing power there was little bit of cream round the oil cap, he did compression test and emissions...

Sometime it is hard to diagnotic head gasket when leak is very small, Put pressure on 15pound air pressure in cooling system when cold and check leak.

You could find it with exhaust gaz analyser in the radiator cap(exhaust leak from head gasket) if so try BARS leak or head gasket sealer in radiator sometime it work for small leak

Over heats, water on floor board

  • Hi, I can help.

  • Your heater core is leaking onto your floorboad. This lowers your antifreeze as well as looses pressure and your car overheats. Your in luck though, you don't have to remove the entire dash to replace the heater core. You get to this heater core by removing the glove box. Last one I did in the freezing cold took me about 1 1/2 hours. Not to bad of a job.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

Water pump leaks

where is the leak coming from? did you inspect the weep hole on the pump? is the pump making noises when the engine is running? it maybe that the water pump bolts just need to be re-torqued, or other possibilities are (depending on location of leak which you didnt specify) the "o" ring on the coolant return feed is worn-you can check to see if your water pump is failing by sqeezing the upper radiator hose on a warm running engine-if you can feel a rush of coolant in the hose then your pump is working sufficiently. the other thing is that it is possible your t'stat is stuck closed which would raise internal pressure in the cooling system and may be the cause for the leak, but it would also cause engine overheating. i would just replace the water pump-it is a pain in the *** on a ram, but it can be done. you will need to remove the serpentine belt, radiator fan shroud, the fan assembly which requires a special fan bolt wrench for chrysler that you can borrow at autozone, or similar auto parts store-they will charge you a fee, but will return the fee when you return the tool. remember to apply grease to a new "o" ring before fitting it onto the return line shaft.haynes, or chiltons publishes a repair manual specific to the ram pick up. i like the chilton manual its called chrysler full size trucks 1997-00 reapir manual. it will guide you step by step on how to replace your water pump. it costs like $20 and well worth it. good luck!

Engine sputters at times when driven up hills or in the hot weather.

Sounds like a head gasket is cracked, any water in oil? That will make oil look like muddy water. Any oil leaks under vehicle? Trace to see if coming out from under head on side of engine block.

Lose power in a head wind?

You may never see signs of leaks or water in oil, it could be a crack of gasket allows combustion power to flow from one cylinder to the adjacent cylinder.

My 1991 Isuzu Rodeo had this problem, it is an 8 hour fix and a couple of days wait after you take head into shop to be milled. Then 4 hours to put back together, very simple to do yourself, but you need a Chilton Manual from local auto store, otherwise $1200.00 to have a good shop fix for you.

On a V6 2000 Nissan Maxima where is the water pump located? Antifreeze is leaking out is this where I should start looking for the problem?

a lot depends on the location of the water leak.  If you have checked all the hoses, clamps, radiator and cap.  There isn't a lot left. The water pump is on the front of the engine under the timing belt shroud.  This would also be a good time to replace the drive belts, timing belt, any soft hoses and anything else that's iffy.
