Question about 2001 Volvo S40

1 Answer

My 2001 Volvo S40 ran out of gas. I added a gallon and now it starts, but as soon as I put it in gear, it stalls again. Any ideas?

Sounds like it is starving for fuel. replace the fuel filter to see if thats the problem.

NO vehicle EVER is supposed to have any additives
put into it,that is clearly indicated in all owners manuals

You many have ruined the fuel pump running it dry

A half or a whole gallon of fuel won't be enough to even reach
the fuel pick up

2001 volvo s40 t4.it will not ildel if cold.hv to start 10 times

There should be a cold start solenoid to put gas int o the manifold to cold start, it might be inoperable. This is the choke for a fuel injected engine.

2001 Volvo s40 seems to stall and not start for ten to 15 min. Also has high temperature reading that is false as car is not really hot.

You need to look at the temp sending unit it's probably faulty anthor issue with volvo is dirty throttle body's this raises havoc on the car they idle up down all over the map also you should change the thermostat too as a precautionary measure make sure it's the right temp for your year of your car thanx Chris

2002 caravan stalled, faulty gas gage added fuel ran for 2 blocks, stalled added 4 more gallons non-ethanol - no start checked fuel pump fuses & relay had towed 2 miles - started fine! ideas?...

Looks like your fuel supply line has got chocked. This happens when the dirt from the gas tank comes into the fuel line when the tank is getting empty as it has happened in your case. Check your fuel filter and replace if required.

I have a 1993 volvo 240 ran out of gas fuel pump and filter are less than 1 year old i put gas into it and it cranks and want to start but it doesn't. i put 6 gallons of gas any advice

It depends on how far you ran it out of fuel. If you ran it until it would not run any more and then tried to start it again several times; you may need to bleed and prime the fuel system to get it started. You start at the line coming from the tank and move toward the fuel injectors. You have to loosen a fitting and have someone pump fuel until the air bubbles stop and then tighten. A friend once worked for two hours to get his tractor started after his daughter ran it out of fuel. This is why they recommend that you do not run a fuel injected car out of fuel and if you do to turn it off as soon as it starts to miss badly.
