SOURCE: Chevy Transfer Case

The most common thing to go wrong with chevy transfercase is the rear tailshaft has a snap ring that breakes. Just remove the bolts holding it on and inspect the shaft and see if the snap ring is broken. Then just replace it with a new on from the dealer.

SOURCE: 2003 chevy tahoe front rear end fluid

i think what you are talking about is the front differential. you will wanna put gear oil in it. the correct weight would be found in your manual.

SOURCE: what type/brand of transfer case fluid is recommended & quantity

Auto tek fluid, it's blue, you get at your dealer only. If you don't spill a drop you will only need 2 qrts. if you spill just a little then it won't be full and you'll end up needing 2.03 qrts.

Chevy tahoe gear differential

remove the drain plugs from the diff units and check for metal bits. Check for metal in the transfer case oil as it sounds like a bearing in the diff section of the transfer case has failed.. There is a small diff here to allow the front wheels to travel at a different speed to the rear unit to allow for driving over un even surfaces or speed bumps.

2005 chevy tahoe has a terrible roar coming from the rear differential. The roar becomes an unbearable whine at 45 mph. Any ideas what is causing this problem?

roar fron the rear end indicates the pinion is not meshing with the crown , most probably bad bearings, disconnect the drive shaft and rock the yoke or turn it slow you will feel the roughness, the only fix is replacement of the rear end

I changed idler pulley and tension pulley with belt on chevy tahoe 00 bu still whining

what kind of belt did you use
I found that the Goodyear Gator belt usually resolves this noise as compared to some cheap store brand belts

second...did you test ALL the pulleys when you had the belt off

maybe your noise is coming from a different pulley

Crackling noise from transfer case

What you may be hearing is the wheel bearings instead of the transfer case. I had this problem with GM before and found it to be the wheel bearing was bad. I know it is not what you think, but it would be an easy thing to check first.
