To test start the car and pull off the pipe from the blue valve going to the 4wd shifter on the front axle - it should be sucking in air . now push the dash button for 4wd and pull off the pipe from the grey valve its should be sucking air now and the blue one will not .

Let us know the results as there are more tests to do .

DTC P0446: Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Vent System Performance
Circuit/System Description
This DTC tests the evaporative emission (EVAP) system for a restricted or blocked EVAP vent path. The control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve Open and the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve Closed. This allows vacuum to be applied to the EVAP system. Once a calibrated vacuum level has been reached, the control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve Closed and the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve Open. The control module monitors the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor for a decrease in vacuum. If the vacuum does not decrease to near 0 inch H2O in a calibrated time, this DTC sets.
Diagnostic Aids

An intermittent condition could be caused by a damaged EVAP vent housing, a temporary blockage at the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve inlet, or a pinched vent hose. A blockage in the vent system will also cause a poor fuel fill problem.

An EVAP canister, vent hose, or vent solenoid valve that has restricted flow may cause this DTC to set. Using a purge solenoid command with a scan tool will allow vacuum to be applied to the system instead of pressure. With the engine running, the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve open, and the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve commanded to 100 percent, the fuel tank vacuum should not increase to more than 5 inches H2O.

An EVAP canister filter that is restricted can cause this DTC to set. Refer to Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement .

Disconnecting one component at a time while the EVAP system is under flow will help to pinpoint a restriction in the system


Do you have a scan tool that reads data PID'S ?
Your FTP - fuel tank pressure sensor could be at fault !

    Ignition ON and fuel cap removed, verify that the FTP sensor parameter is between 1.3-1.7 volts. ?‡'
    If not within the specified range, go to the FTP sensor section in Circuit/System Testing.

  1. Install the fuel cap.
  2. With the engine running, the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve open, and the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve commanded to 100 percent, the fuel tank vacuum should not increase to more than 12 inches H2O.

There is no code P0544 , maybe you mean P0455 ?
The control module tests the evaporative emission (EVAP) system for a large leak. The control module monitors the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor signal to determine the EVAP system vacuum level. When the conditions for running are met, the control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve OPEN and the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve CLOSED . This allows engine vacuum to enter the EVAP system. At a calibrated time, or vacuum level, the control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve closed, sealing the system, and monitors the FTP sensor input in order to determine the EVAP system vacuum level. If the system is unable to achieve the calibrated vacuum level, or if the vacuum level decreases too rapidly, this DTC sets.

It's called EVAP purge solenoid , the front one . An your Mechanic is probably not full of it . You need to know how the system works . If the computer set's a code for that system , it will not test it again till it's fixed an sometime other problems come up . After he fixed the first problem he should have told you that after a day or two or a couple of key cycles , starting the car cold till warm an a cold start again , sitting over night , 8 hours . Then the computer will retest the system . An other codes may set . Before putting blame , you should have to read about OBD 2 emissions , before being able to have a vehicle .

Hello,The problem is that the EVAP system is not able to achieve or maintain vacuum during the diagnostic testThe control module tests the evaporative emission (EVAP) system for a large leak. The code is for a large leak in the EVAP system such as a loose or missing gas cap. But it could also mean a loose or missing hose to the canister or other leak in the tank.
The computer vents the tank several times an hour while the engine is running, and it checks the system by pressurizing the gas tank. If the tank will not hold pressure the code is set.
You may have to check the top of the tank where the fuel pump gasket is, as well as the vent lines to the front of the car.
A mechanic would perform a smoke test to look for leaks.

Hello, This Code means there is a problem with the Electric solenoid that controls Vacuum to your EGR valve. It can mean a vacuum line is off or the EGR valve itself is leaking.

If you have any Vacuum test gauges you should disconnect the vacuum line to the EGR and attach a vacuum source and try operating the EGR valve. If the valve moves and holds vacuum, then your problem is upstream in the vacuum lines and solenoid. If the EGR valve leaks and will not hold open with vacuum applied to it, the EGR valve is bad.

It is a little more difficult to test the solenoid because some engine controls will not activate the solenoid unless the car is in gear and above a certain speed. Some of the solenoids work on small voltage (3V) so applying 12 volts will melt the internal parts. Use an Ohmmeter for bench testing the Solenoid.

Many of the parts stores such as Autozone, Oreillys, and Advance have tool loan Programs which for a deposit, can supply you with test tools. The actual EGR may be tested if the counter-person will do it for you and can be done on the car. It varies place to place on what the stores policy is for testing.

My 97 thunderbird lx is trowing the following codes p0708 and p1443 the transmission was dropped to fix a seal and put back, and now the coses are being thrown


P0708 : Transmission Range Sensor Circuit High Input
P1443 : Evaporative Emission Control System Vacuum System - Purge Control Solenoid or Purge Control Valve fault. Loose or defective gas cap will cause this code. Good luck

IDLING PROBLEMS ON 1992 ACCORD EX


Have the Idle Control Solenoid Valve cleaned up.

Or it might be defective. See steps below to check...
  1. Disconnect idle control solenoid valve electrical connector.
  2. Disconnect upper hose to solenoid valve from manifold and apply vacuum to hose. Valve should hold vacuum.
  3. Continue applying vacuum to hose and briefly energize valve by connecting battery positive terminal to the black/yellow wire terminal and negative battery terminal to the green/black wire terminal. Valve should not hold vacuum when energized.
  4. If idle control solenoid valve fails to perform as outlined, valve is defective.

P0420 relates to the catalytic converter. The computer sees little or no improvement in the exhaust before and after going through the converter. Either your oxygen sensors need replacement (3 total) or you need a new catalytic converter.
What is the mileage on the vehicle? Does it run well? Oxygen sensors generally start to fail after 70,000 miles. Catalytic converters usually fail because the engine is runnig rich and the owner ignores that fault for months. This causes the catalytic converter to overheat and fail.

P1456 relates to the evaporative emission system. This system holds the gas fumes in the system so they are not vented to the atmosphere. The most common cause of this code being set is failing to properly tighten the gas cap after refueling. Take the cap off and clean the sealing O-ring. Put it back on and tighten till it clicks 3 times. Make sure you have the correct gray colored gas cap. Clear the code and see if it resets within a few days. If it does, try replacing the gas cap.
