Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
I have the same issue. I've learned that turning off the headlights BEFORE you shut your engine off works. If you turn off your headlights AFTER, a quick solution is to flip the switch into the ON position and then turn them back off. Hope this works for you!

Imho; GC's have a feature called "follow me home" and if this is it; then the headlamps should turn off in a few - say 5-6?- minutes. but if not, then you should ask an electrician who knows these vehicles.

This is an indication of a bad ignition switch. if the switch is bad it will not shut everything off.
