How do I turn on the 4 X 4 on my 1999 Ford Explorer or is it automatic? I don't have a manual. Is there some sort of button on the dashboard?

There should be a knob or selector on the dash usually located to left of the radio. When you put your vehicle in 4wd you can do this on the move at a sloe rate of speed but never try to put it into 4wd low on the move or it will hurt the system. To put the vehicle in 4wd Lo stop and put your transmission in neutral and the select 4wd Lo. Hope this helped you out, Roger

1992 explorer automatic hubs.Button in dash does not engage $ whe

I have the same problem with my 92' four liter explorer. I believe it has something to do with the transfer case motor behind the tranny. Under a pinch, I tapped on and around the transfer case
and tf motor, and the four-wheel drive engaged. I suspect it might be from loose wiring or a bad contact of some sort.
