This is a specialty tool and you can probably borrow or rent one from Advance Auto parts or Auto Zone. They are also not to expensive to buy but since you will probably never use it again I would just rent one. The tool has a bolt through the center that pushes into your crankshaft and bolts on the outside of the puller that bolt into the bolts that hold on your lower pulley. After you attach the puller when you tighten the center bolt it will pull the balancer off. The tool is called of course a hramonic balancer puller. Hope this helped you out, Roger

How do you remove timing cover on a 2001 dodge durango 5.9

this thing, has a lot things to do. a certified technicians only can do the job. but if you wanna do it alone, here are some instruction(s) after removing the parts to have acces on it.
1. Remove the crankshaft pulley using the appropriate socket.
2. Remove the harmonic balancer using the harmonic balancer puller.
3. Loosen the oil pan bolts.
4. Remove the front two oil pan bolts--one on each side of the crankshaft--these two bolts help hold the timing cover in place.
4. Remove the timing cover bolts using the appropriate socket.
5.Pull the cover off the block.
6.Remove the seal from the timing cover using a seal puller(if it is your problem).
7. Clean the gasket mounting surfaces on the engine and timing cover with the scraper.
8. Smear a thin layer of silicone on the timing cover's gasket mounting surface.
9. Fit the gasket on the timing cover.
10. Install the timing cover and tighten the bolts to it's specified torque.

How to time dodge 5.9 motor. it wants to fire but will not. the marks of the harmonic balencer vs. where the distributor button goes

when you install the distributor the rotor button should point at the # 1 plug wire on the distributor cap make sure you are on the compression stroke of the motor when doing this you can verify that you are on the compression stroke by removing the #1 spark plug and turning the engine over while holding your fingure over the spark plug hole it will push your finger off the hole you need to spin the engine .spin the engine over slow while doing this so you don,t pass the timing mark on the harmonic balancer.

I need to put timing cover gasket on a 1990 dodge 360..if I pull the harmonic balancer off will I have to time engine again?

No, re-timing your engine would only be necessary if move the distributor.
The Harmonic Balancer is aligned to the crankshaft by a keyway. In can only be installed in one position.

Hope this helps.

Looking for how to line up or time a dodge durango

I don't think you have to remove the timing chain, to do head gaskets. if you are talking about the distributor, you could use a paint marker to mark indicator marks on intake and on this distributor

I have a 1987 Dodge Ram 50 sport 2.6 litre the head gasket is blown how do i get the timing chain off to replace the gasket

You have to remove the oil pan - harmonic balancer - timing cover to replace timing chain... to replace cylinder head gasket and not the chain -- you need an assistant to hold the camshaft gear with chain on it. Suspending it with wire to keep the chain from moving the timing (do not let the chain relax as it will come off the crankshaft gear and change the timing)

1976 chevy monte carlo 350cid 4bbl cal. model.engine stops within 1 mile.idles high and gets real hot within 5 to 10 minutes of idling.having a hard time trying to time the vaccuum leaks...

Just a note to add the harmonic balancer tends to slip around giving you a false reading. i have had 3 of them on older cars that have done that. you may need to replace timing chain, and sprockets as well as the harmonic balancer.
As far as the over heating goes, i can only guess that maybe it is either the thermostat or the manifold work you had done sorry i couldnt be any more help
