Have you jacked up the right rear tire to spin it? Have you used the emergency brake? The e-brake cable could be stuck on. It could be a bad wheel cylinder. or if it has rear disc brakes it could be a faulty caliper or a collapsed brake hose.

Van will not back up or drive forward. Seems like the back end is locked up. Van started and shifted into gear, but would not move.

If you can feel the thump of the engine when you select gear I would say the trans is working, most likely I would say that your emergency brakes are locked, your rear shoes are binding with the drum. 2 causes, a frayed cable may not be allowing you to release the the brakes, or the springs are soft in the rear brake area and not releasing. Jack up the rear put in neutral, emergency lever off, see if wheel can turn by hand, if not, remove wheel hit brake drum with rubber mallet to see if this releases the shoes off the drum. Inspect emergency brake cable first to see that there is little tension holding it. let me know how you go. cheers.

When i put my foot on the brake,i cant put the van in gear

Make sure the brake lights work first. The park lock system has to receive a signal from the brake lights before it will release the lock to allow you to shift out of park.

Back passenger rear wheel is locked

It sounds more like your rear end has a bad bearing or a bad pinion gear. If it has high miles it may be time for a rebuild. It could be brake related also, take off the back drum and see if anything is rattling around in there or broken. If your not hitting the brakes they shouldn't engage.

2002 Silverado right rear wheel locking up.

You will need to have the parking brake adjusted to the minimum clearance possible and double check the shoes & drum while off.

It sounds as though the shoes are loose, they move forward, grab & unil you center the brakes by applying them and then they release until put into a bind again.

These usually don't get adjusted or even looked at since they are hidden inside the brake rotor hub on the rear wheels.

good luck.

I have re/re the rear brake cylinders, shoes, drums, front rotors, pads, and callipers on my 2000 gmc safari van.i have bled all the brakes. but the drivers front has no pressure or fluid.the other three brakes...

make sure you are bleeding them by doing them as an abs system,do the right rear then the left front, then the left rear then the right front, the opposite wheels are how the system brakes.

Rear brakes lock up

ABS hydraulics on that unit are a known problem.

The dealer has a set of gauges to install and verify.

Shop around for prices on one, including salvage, then take it to the dealer to verify the concern before you shell out a couple hundred bucks.

Its not a tough replacement if you are handy with a wrench.

If not, leave that one to the pros.
