Question about Chevrolet 1500

Have a 2000 siverado v-6. Engine light has been on since I got it 5 yrs ago but it runs great. cant get OBDII scan tool to communicate with truck. Its as if the wires have been cut but I cant find any proof of that. What can I do to diagnose the cause of the engine light?

Hi

It is very difficult in this case, Its actually quite common that you get engine lights with no real fault. I would try the obvious things like the air flow sensor, take it out and give it a clean up. also the EGR valve just clean them and replace to see if that's the issue. when they get dirty they will over compensate although sometimes it's not enough to feel any fault.

There may be a second diagnostic plug near the smaller fuse box inside the car. Also worth a mention check the air pipes for leaks and the vacuum pipe to the throttle body, may be clogged or slightly bent not allowing full vacuum, these V6's run so smoothly any fault is normally easy to trace.

It could even be a fuse out for something you never use on the car. Have you ever had the battery off the car? It would be worth asking a garage to disconnect the ECU for a short while and then plug it back in, might reset the fault code.

Engine cuts out occasionally. At low speed, medium speed, high speed. Some time it burps 2 or 3 times then won't do it the rest of the day. Another day it will miss every 5 minutes or so.


May be a bad ignition switch. Do not hang a bunch of trinkets and keys from your key ring. 2 keys at most. Perform an OBDII scan before doing any repairs. Let your scan print out be your guide to any parts replacement.

2002 chevy silverado trys to stall in any condition sometime it will stall. all dash light will come on. starts right up.


Is check engine light Lit ? You should have all the computers on the vehicle check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ! Check the battery an all connections !

Begin the system diagnosis with the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Electrical . The Diagnostic System Check will provide the following information:

The identification of the control module(s) which command the system.

The ability of the control modules to communicate through the serial data circuit.

The identification of any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their status.

The use of the Diagnostic System Check will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.
Diagnostic System Check - Engine Electrical
Test Description
The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.
Lack of communication may be due to a partial malfunction of the class 2 serial data circuit or due to a total malfunction of the class 2 serial data circuit. The specified procedure will determine the particular condition.
The symptom list in Symptoms will determine the correct diagnostic procedure to use.
The presence of DTCs which begin with "U" indicate some other module is not communicating. The specified procedure will compile all the available information before tests are performed.

Rotate the ignition switch through all positions while observing the Class 2 Power Mode on the Scan Tool. Refer to the Serial Data Power Mode table within the Body Control System Description and Operation in Body Control System for a list of the power mode states that correspond to each ignition switch position.
Does the Class 2 Power Mode parameter reading match the ignition switch position for all the selected positions?

2000 Mazda Miata with OBDII read/communication error


Auto zone will scan it for free, will print out the code, wait the emissions paper will tell you the codes at fault, autozzone will double check for ya.

I have a 2006 bmw 525i, the check engine light came on for a missfire in cylinder 6. I replaced the plugs and the coil and it is running great but the light still wont go off. I have a scanner and reset...


Many newer cars computers have to see anywhere from 50-250 good trips without the original problem showing up. This doesn't mean crank, cut off, crank, cut off... It has to actually be driven through a drive cycle. Otherwise, you'll need a scan tool capable of erasing the codes, the cheaper ones may not do the trick.

Does the 2000 accent have a self diagnose facility? (like the toyota camerys of a few years ago?) How do I activate it and what are the codes?


All cars built after 1996 sold in the USA have to have OBDII diagnostics. You don't need to activate anything. To read the code, you can 1. buy a scan tool 2. Pay a garage to diagnose the code 3. Go to your local autoparts chain and they will read the codes for free. Call first.
You may not have a code if your trouble light or check engine light is not on.

This vehicle has the OBDII system and you can only retrieve codes on this with a scan tool. Some of your parts houses like Autozone will retieve them for you for free.
