Question about 2001 Toyota Prius
I have owned a 2001 prius for several years with minumal trouble, however, this winter on avery cold day the main battery warning light came on and the car refused to start. I had it towed to a dealer who said it was the main battery. I talked to another toyota dealer who said they doubt that it was the main battery, maybe just a code disabling the car until the problem was addressed. I called toyota and they agreed to pay half the cost (appx. $3,000) because of the millage (over 100,000) and age of the car. The other dealer's service doubt that they( the guys that have my car hostage) even looked any further than the code because they did not charge me anything. I wanted to get more info. before I questioned the shop further.
Thank you for any help,
Always have your battery tested first. They will get a print out of everything from a good battery tester.

About 80% at that age connectors between the cells in the main battery get corroded.. remove, wire brush, coat with electrical grease, reinstall and torque and you should be fine

If Hybrid battery is going bad, you should see a red exclamation mark on cars 2004-2009, i dunno the Gen I.... If 12V battery is bad, you need to replace it first before going deep into hybrid battery replacement/refurbishment. Also keep in mind, its a good idea to upgrade to Gen II/III battery pack from Gen I...better cells in general

You should check if there is any fusible link between the battery and the starter and other active components that helps the car to start. You should check its continuity. Usually it is located where the wire gets little bit thicken.

I have the same Prius and there are two batteries a small 12 volt auto battery located in the trunk on the driver side, this battery is used for starting, lights, wipers, door locks ect. and the computer for the Hybird system. That battery is charged by the inverter on the Hybird side, that being sead it is important to keep as much 12 volt draw to a minimum on startup. Turn off the A/c- heater blower, wipers. I have replaced three batteries from 2001.
now if your Hybird battery battery is going bad the information screen will light up and will affect all systems. At that time you will be in limp mode , I replaced that battery in 2006 at a cost of $1,400.00 from NAPA auto (Dorman rebuilt with a three year warranty)

I would check battery first and foremost.battery light coming on would indicate low battery or alternator and check plugs .if battery was completely dead it would just click when turning key

I had the same problem. I removed the relays from the fusebox under the bonnet/hood (top left side) and then replaced them. All working OK now. Sometimes I have had a problem when I start the car (especially after rainy day) the petrol engine immediately dies and I can only drive in electric. I have found that if I turn the ignition off and then restart it and immediately pump the accelerator it makes the engine run OK. Hope this helps.

There is an issue with the height control sensor on the Prius product. Is it still under warranty? If not, go back to the dealer and tell them that you want scheduled to see the District Service and Parts Operations Manager. When you meet with him/her, explain the situation, and the costs involved. He/she has the ability to grant "goodwill" assistance, and possibly help you out on the repair, with Toyota participating in some of the costs.
Can't hurt to try. More often than not, the DSPOMs are very flexible, and like to promote customer satisfaction.

P0A93 is an inverter cooling problem. The inverter is cooled by a dedicated cooling system, which consists of an electric water pump, cooling fan, and radiator. This cooling system is independent of the engine cooling system. The mechanic should check if there is sufficient amount of coolant for the inverter, check if the coolant hose is not bent or clogged, if the water pump / cooling fan motor connections are ok, and of course if both of the cooling fan motors are OK
