I just took my Hyundai 2002 Accent to get inspected. The emissions test light would not come on. Mechanic said it would have to go to the dealer to get the computer reset. Does this cost a lot?

There not exist any computer reset that correct a emission out of range. If the car is running without the check engine light comes lit ( it means if you drive the car more than 40 miles and the check engine light remains off) and the emissions are out of the range, is necessary check if the engine is operating in normal coolant temperature ( half way to the top), check if the air filter is free, check for the spark plugs are working properly, and check if the catalytic converter is at least in 13% of CO2. Also check with a scanner tool if have any engine code stored in the memory.

Engine light blinks once and stays on

Typically, a flashing light is more serious than a solid check-engine light. The flashing light is meant to alert you that you may have a misfire in your engine that will cause catalytic converter damage if you leave the problem unresolved. Replacing a catalytic converter can be costly, so have the engine checked as soon as possible by a certified mechanic.
A flashing check-engine light generally indicates that there is a failure in the emission control system. The emission control system contains an array of sensors that work to reduce the amount of pollution released into the air. An oxygen sensor reads the air and fuel mixture and lights up when it is out of range. The acceptable range is between 50 millivolts and 800 mV. If the check-engine light is flashing, you should visit your mechanic or dealer as soon as possible.

2000 Grand Marquis Blinking check engine light?

The light is on because you have a problem with the engine or fuel management that could affect emissions. The light is blinking because the problem is serious enough to damage the catalytic converter. Get it checked with a scanner or code reader and go from there.

Emissions garage light comes on 2006 VW Jetta 2.0 tdi. engine lacks power and is slow to change up gears (dsg gearbox). I have cleaned the erg valve and refitted. No change

It may be the gas problem?OBD ECU after oil problem is detected automatically set emission reduction, thereby causing emissions warning light is on. Long died can also lead to other serious fault lights appear.

Blinking check engine light

Year make and model ??
The check engine light is telling the driver the computer has a problem with something that involves performance or emissions.
When the light is flashing the problem is serious.

Is check engine light and service engine light the same?

They are one and the same. The check engine light is indicating that the computer has detected a problem. If the check engine light is flashing, it is a serious emissions problem and you need to have it checked immediately, otherwise the catalytic converter will be damaged.

The check engine light is flashing

Why Is My Check Engine Light Flashing? Location
  1. The check-engine light may be a graphic of an engine or similar icon, or it may contain the words "check engine" or "service engine." In some vehicles, a red check-engine light means the car needs absolute immediate attention while a yellow check-engine light means you need to make an appointment soon. Either way, you should know the location of the light and periodically glance at it to ensure its status. The light is used to indicate power train problems that are associated with your vehicle's emissions system. (The power train is the engine, transmission and other power parts of your vehicle.)
Flashing Light
Cause
  1. A flashing check-engine light generally indicates that there is a failure in the emission control system. The emission control system contains an array of sensors that work to reduce the amount of pollution released into the air. An oxygen sensor reads the air and fuel mixture and lights up when it is out of range. The acceptable range is between 50 mill volts and 800 mV. If the check-engine light is flashing, you should visit your mechanic or dealer as soon as possible.
Loose Gas Cap
  1. A gas cap that isn't twisted on tight enough may cause the check engine light to illuminate, but it won't flash. Try tightening the gas cap and watch the light. In many cases, it will turn off because the problem has been corrected. If the light stays on for more than a day or two, have your mechanic run an on-board diagnostic (OBD) to see if there is a code in the system indicating a serious problem. Your mechanic can reset the light to off if the problem was a loose gas cap.
Spark Plug Wires
  1. As spark plug wires age, they can become brittle and crack, causing an electrical misfire. Your check engine light might turn on and stay lit. If this happens, go home as soon as possible, turn off your engine, and inspect the wires. If the wires are brittle and cracked, you need to replace them. If your check engine light stays on after the wires are replaced, have your mechanic run an OBD.

Get it scanned. some auto parts will do it for free. You need to find out what error the computer has detected, and go from there.

1997 chevy malibu engine light just came on, what does it mean?

Hi,

The Engine Check light signifies your vehicle's onboard computer has identified an abnormality in the engine/emission systems.

If the light goes out, then the computer has recorded the fault but it was not significant to remain lit.

If however, the Engine Check light is now permanently lit....this means the computer has identified an issue that needs resolving.

If the latter applies, then you should have your computer scanned for codes at your local Chev dealership. The computer will identify the offending component/s within minutes.

Yellow engine light went on. What does this mean?

Hi there,

The yellow/orange Engine Check Light is an indicator that your vehicle's computer has detected an abnormality within the engine's electronics or emission system.

Sometimes it can be a one-off abnormality, which eventually rectifies itself within 40 drive cycles.

However, if the Engine light remains lit, then this is an indication of something more concerning (but not necessarily serious).

If it does remain lit when driving, then you should have your local Jaguar service agent scan the computer for "trouble codes", which will quickly identify the component and/or location of the problem.

Hope this helps...
