I HAVE A 1998 4.3L CHEVY 1500. IT WAS MISFIRING RUNNING DOWN THE ROAD. I CHANGED THE PLUGS AND WIRES AND IT IS STILL MISFIRING BUT NOT AS OFTEN. MY NEXT STEP WOULD BE TO CHANGE THE CAP AND ROTOR. WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST.

I would at this point. The old plugs and wires would be a resistance holding voltage at the cap and rotor,, causing burning and pitting.

Why is my jag misfiring?

if the wires are on the right plug then you could have injector problems. when you changed the plugs did you gap the plugs to specs as if they aren`t then it can cause this problem. you could also have one or more bad ignition wires.

2004 chevy impala, jerking when trying to accelerate. Check engine light flashing

Cylinders are probably misfiring. Plugs probably need changed. Also have a local parts store check for any check engine light codes. May have multiple cylinders misfiring. Could possibly be plug wires (If it has them) or the Coils on the plugs (if it is set up like this instead of plug wires).

2005 chevy silverado misfires we changed plugs and wires no check engine light comes on at all goes dead when in gear

Have the PCM diagnosed, it may be defective. If the engine is really misfiring and you are dead sure of that the check engine light should be blinking at you. Are you sure the light works? Does the CEL prove out when key is turned to run?

2006 chevy express 2500 4.8l......misfiring bad. Changed plugs, wires, catalytic converter, muffler, o2 censor and mass air flow censor. Major misfiring and running horrible. I am at a loss here.....HELP!

Please make sure you gapped the plugs to specifications. ( probably 35 thou' of an inch ) gap gages are very inexpensive. Also suspect the spark plug wires, check teher integrety as well the correct firing order. To check for short, in the dark watch for arching to ground ( visually ).

Hope that helps.

Where is Idle control valve located and how do you know if it's bad? My 1994 Toyota pick is idleing ruff and skips a little while running down the road. I've changed the plugs and wires also had the head...

Idle air control valve only controls air into the engine while idling. If your vehicle is running rough and skips, its misfiring. Make sure that the new plugs are properly gapped and timing is set right on the distributor side, intake hose isnt leaking. Re-inspect the sparkplugs for fouling (black, burnt, brown etc). if ok, have the computer scanned for the error at autozone (free). Post the code online...hopefully this helpd

My 1996 chevy 1500 has a missfire i have

Well, First i would have replaced all of the spark plugs and the wires, Then moved to the cap or rotor second, but in that case, did you check the spark plugs and wires, when was the last time they were changed? Maybe they were changed already and that's why you when straight to the distro? Is there a computer code for a misfire, or it feels like a misfire when it's running?

1997 chevy truck running rough

Is this a 5.7? They are notorious for intake manifold gasket leaks. When mine did it, the diagnostics blamed it on an ignition misfire also! Replaced the gaskets and it runs smooth!
