Overheats at high speed, cools back down at low speed. Heater lowers the temp.


With everything you have changed not fixing the problem, I would check the water pump and belt. You could also have something preventing the coolant from circulating freely through the engine.

Here's a link to the P0340 code,and P1491.Powertrain Diagnostics Manual P-1491 Radiator Fan control relay circuit
Set condition: An open or shorted condition is detected in the radiator fan relay control circuit.

Possibilities:
Fan relay ground circuit open
Fused B+ circuit open
Rad fan control relay defective
RF relay output circuit volt cycles over to batt voltage
RF relay control circuit open
RF relay ctrl rly ckt wir harness observable or intermittant defect
RF relay ctrl ckt short to ground
Defective PCM

Get out your Multimeter.

Need to know where waterpump is located on 1999 dodge neon


the bottom radiator hose goes from the radiator to the water pump just follow it & that's the water pump......hope this helps.....cheers

1999 DODGE NEON OVER HEATING ISSUES


You probably just need to "burp" your cooling system. Run the car (from cold) with the radiator cap open and the heater on full blast. As the engine heats up and the water level goes down, fill it up until it stays full and starts to overflow.

Transmision fluid in radiator fluid


Flush cooling system , and get transmission flushed & fluid and filter changed as well. Then install new radiator. Hopefully you caught it before damage to transmission.

96 neon keeps showing hot...not the thermostat, or radiator....help


check to see if the hoses are collapsing or pinched, or the radiator needs to be flushed. could be the thermostat even though you said its not. sometimes when you get a new one, its still a bad one

Transmission fluid in antifreeze resevoir?


The heat exchanger in the rad header on the bottom is shot. You need a new rad, flush the coolant, change the tranny oil and filter, clean out the resevoir.
