I had a similar problem on our Polo 1.4. I replaced the throttle sensor body which I bought online for about £100. It solved the problem and was easy to change with the right tools. VW garage wanted £350 for the part alone!!

Try cleaning your battery terminals and tightening them. if that doesnt solve the problem your battery or alternator may be dying, some auto parts stores will do a charging system check for free that will tell you if one or the other is bad.

Its sounds like your car isn't idling fast enough, hence it is switching off when you come to a halt. Ideally the idle speed needs to be increased which can only be done with a VAG diagnostic tester. Alternatively, it could also be caused by a faulty throttle body valve, which would need to be replaced. However, none of this may be necessary, should your car respond to the reset procedure described on http://volkswagen-polo-highline.blogspot.com/

If this does't solve your problem, it's time to replace the throttle body but thereafter Adaptation needs to be done by someone with a VAG diagnostic tester.

Vw polo I.4 16 v stalling. cutting out when coming to a stop or slowing down..replaced battery ..new coils fixed timing..new fuel pump.. could it be a faulty oxygen sensor

A car I had did this (not a VW though). It turned out to be a dirty throttle position or body slider (or somesuch name). Once cleaned the problem was resolved. No idea where yours is located, but mine was near the air filter.

VW Golf MK3 1996 P - Car cuts out when slowing down. Battery and Oil lights come on. Restart the car then starts juggering. Its not a fluid purring from the engine.

i would start by cleaning out the throttle body. they collect soot and not have to be a lot either for it to mess up the idle speed, i had trhis on mine soon as i dipped the clutch to slow down the rpm dropped to about 400 to stall, i cleaned throttle body out ( taking air intake off and wipe round inside and the butterfly will be enough) and now it idles and the rpm dont drop below 900

not being smart but you are being fed porkies.. it sounds like you are drawing air somewhere or you have throttle body problems. you will need to get it on to a diagnostic computer to tell.
