Question about 2001 Ford Focus

1 Answer

I need to get a new cat converter for my 2002 Focus. Any idea how much this should cost. Is anyone else having loads of problems with their 2002 model? Driver door barrel, wheel bearing and clutch master cylinder all need replacing. It's never ending

Smaller cars with 4cylinders do get a beating on parts for they are made much smaller and the cars drive as fast as larger ones. A catylictic converter can be ourchased by aftermarket brands far less than from Ford. About $150 or less. Check a auto parts store then compare to a Ford dealer on all items needed for prices are different in all areas which we live

I would wait on the cat. Have the heads and sensors done and see if the cat burns the coolant off.

You should try to solve the cylinder problem first. I would start with a compression test to see whats going on. When did you last do a tune up; plugs, wires etc. The "cat" is probably plugged up from all the excess hydrocarbon buildup due to #8 not firing. If you can fix the cylinder problem, the "cat" may get cleaned out with some highway driving. Good luck.

2002 Nissan Altima consumes oil. I've replaced (approx 1 yr ago) the catalytic converters (new) and used engine; however, still consuming oil (1-2 quarts every other week). Check engine light on again with...

The used engine that you bought was previously damaged by the disintegrating cats that were on the car that it came from and because it was burning oil badly when you installed the new cats, it ruined the new cats with the oil that was coming out of it. You'll need a re-manufactured engine, not a used one, they are all bad, and new cats again. Bad news I know. but likely the problem.

Check engine light after installing cat converter and 02 sensor

Manual can not tell you the problem relaited to check engine light . I mean point the problem . You have to use scaner to retreive the code from ECU and go from there. You could save a lot of money by retreiving code from ECU in the first place , instead of doing guesswork.

I have a a check engine light on. Honda tech diagnosed it as a plugged catalytic converter. Estimated parts costs alone are $1300 including converter, exhaust manifold, 2 O2 sensors. Car runs fine at...

If it accelerates good, going up a hill, and you don't feel it holding back, or sluggish when trying to accelerate, I'd certainly get a second opinion. What code were/are you getting?

Cat converters

yes sir they are about right. I have had both of my CAT CONV replaced. The 1st was under warranty. There is a 8yr/80000, mile warranty with the dealer. So I did not have to pay anything for that. The second one was replaced recently at Precision Tune. That was a bout a grand just for the CAT CONV and labor. I had called the mazda dealer and they confirmed as well. So yes we do have two and they do cost about a grand a piece.

goodl luck

Need to know what po431 code

catalytic converter fault, I would try to replace the o2 sensor first because the cat cost just about $500! I know it is the sensor after that cat and I am pretty sure it is for the back side of the motor.

Good luck, I just replaced all o2 sensors and still got that code and I just purchased 2 cats- Big Money Problem!
