Question about 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT

1 Answer

I just had my transmission worked on at P.B.'s, fixing a slight leak that they found - now the car has been bucking and jumping like its going to die. I've heard that Pontiac transmissions are very fussy. The car was running perfectly before I took it to them, it had a slight brake noise and a little fluid leak. They diagnosed $1,550.00 worth of leaks and wheel cylinder repairs. After they fixed my car, my engine is making a funny little rattling noise and it is bucking. Can you tell me what could be causing this. Thank you.

When the engine really got hot is there a possibility you may have over expanded some parts and now the engine is sort of tight and is not spinning fast enough to start.

Should I fix my oil leak in my 1986 Toyota Camry 1986 4 cyl.?

On this car it's almost worth the repair cost to fix many of the common problems, they are quite reliable cars. So if your mechanic thinks the rear main engine seal is leaking, or the automatic transmission torque converter is leaking , be ready to spend some money on the labor, as both repairs require that the transmission be removed. Aside from this one repair, all other work can be done with relative ease! Keep this car, over 250 k, think about selling.

On takeoff my car jumps like it is running out of gas. changed fuel filter already

Could be the transmission slipping if it feels almost like a slight bump when you step on the gas. If it is the transmission, cost of repairs can range depending on if it is a stick or automatic. First gear is the first to go in a lot of older vehicles. I would try to have the transmission flushed or try a pour in transmission fix like the following :

Lucas Transmission Fix

There are many alternatives to the latter, just the first that came to mind. Hope this helps!

Usually "bucking" is caused by ignition. Timing or faulty spark plug wires. They will ildle fine, but when you start driving , the miss firing starts.
First, try aiming a timing light at the crank and see if the marks are jumping around, or staying in one spot. If they are jumping, the timing belt, or chain, depending on what we're dealing with, has jumped a cog.
If not, then try changing the wires.
As for the up and down idling, i would think you still have a vacuum leak. Try dumping some soapy water along the intake gasket while it's running, and see if it bubbles.

While driving 1995 caravan jumps out off gear..

of course you could have transmission problems but more likely there is an adjustment near the bottom of the steering columm just down from the back edge of the battery .. that adjusts where the transmission leaver is positioned with respect to your shift lever .. if its off a bit then you might be between two gears .. that area become corroded at times due to a little battery acid overflow .. in one case the unused side connection on a replacement battery had a slight leak .. that damaged the bracket that holds the adjustment .. that one would go in reverse when you thought it was in park Ouch ...

96 Ford Taurus GL Revving problem when stop then go

Did you check the transmission fluid again. You could have a major leak. Or reving the car up so high it started to burn the clutches in your transmission, resulting in replacing the transmission. Always check the fluid. A few dollars for fluid is better than 1500 bucks for a new tranny
