On non turbo's the setting is 14 degrees before top dead center (BTDC) and for turbo's it is 16 degrees BTDC

My 99 9.5 4cyl saab blows blue and white smoke . i ve been told it is a turbo replacement fix. the car has 161k. Is it really worth fixing the turbo? The car is in good condition, new h2o pump,tires,good...


I would replace to turbo. To make sure it is the turbo and not the head gasket, remove the air intake to the turbo (not a hard job) and then (with engine off) grab that turbo shaft. Try and pull and push it and move it up and down. If there is ANY play, it's the turbo. If you got 161k out of one turbo, that is VERY GOOD. Normal is 120k or less. There is a guy on ebay that sells rebuilt for about $300. If you do the work yourself (Experienced Tuner) you can save $1k. Else you will have to have a shop do it, usually about $1,200 or so for everything. If you are in the WI area, we could work something out.

is the cooling system circulating, could be a bad heater core or plugged up. feel the heater hoses going into the firewall. that should tell u if it is circulating.

My 1988 Saab 9000 Turbo needs hydraulic fluid for the clutch. Where is the place where I put the hyrdralic fluid located???


the clutch is fed by the brake's .. its actuallly jsut break fluid.. if your low on clutch fluid it means you must have a leak check the master it self for leaks.

sometimes that means a bulb is no good or a flasher is no good. usually people at the auto parts store will help change those.

Your problem with the APC system. Any perceived fault and you only get base boost. The most likely fault is the boost pressure sensor located under the dash on the left-hand side. when it is bad you often hear the APC solenoid valve clicking at idle.
