With the car on ground, break loose the drive-axle nut, and the wheel nuts , than jack up the car, support it properly, remove the wheel ,remove the axle-nut.
Remove the brake caliper assembly-- support it properly.
Remove the two bolts that hold the hub bracket to the Macpherson strut assemble, remove the lower arm ball joint and remove the steering tie- rod ball-joint attached to the hub bracket. That's it.Slide off the hub /with the bracket off the drive-shaft.

Is it Worth to invest for a new timing chain or new engine on my 2007 Chevrolet cobalt?

Hi, The loud knock you are hearing is typically refer to as "spinning a bearing" OK, sounds like that's what is supposed to happen I know, BUT, the bearing is called a shell hearing, it is the bearings that are used in the connecting rod to crank connection.. Now, the repair... it is most common to replace the engine in these cases. You can expect around $3000.00 to $ 3500.00, replace the engine.

Growling sound when moving. Vibration can be felt in the pedals and the front floor. My dad thought it was a wheel bearing but a local oil change and repair shop says it is the differential. Could that be...

Well, both of these are good ideas to check. It would be worth checking the wheel bearing by putting the front end on jack stands and feeling for play. If you are willing to take a little time and pull the axle shaft you can see if the axle bearing is bad too. Replacment parts including wheel bearing, axle bearing and the new differential fluid should be under $200. If you take it to a good shop expect about $400 in labor totaling about $600-700. Good luck Joe

Blown oil pump 3 cyclinders not firing what else can i I expect in repairing engine

If the oil pump does not work, the entire engine will lock up and be totally useless. You will need to do a complete rebuild of the engine, including main bearings and rod bearings. Sometimes it is easier to buy a rebuilt engine, in the area of $1800.00. Rebuilding will cost 800.00 plus 15 hours lablr.

Popping and grinding with extreme wheel turns

This sounds very much like a problem with your front wheel bearings.

The Xterra Wheel Bearings need to be re-greased at least every 30k miles, and more often if you often go through water deep enough to reach the hubs. When the water gets in the hubs it contaminates the grease and damage can be done to the bearings. This will create a grinding noise and in severe cases even damage to the axle spindle.

You will need to have this looked at by a mechanic to fully assess the damage. Cost will very much be dependant on the extent of this damage.

This link gives an idea of the cost for bearings on the Xterra but obviously this does not include labor to fit. As I say the overall cost is difficult to predict until the full extent of the damage is known.,model:Xterra,part:Wheel+Bearing,universal:0)

Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa.

Battery won't stay charged while running. Alternator is fine tho.

It seems that your battery is not getting its charging amount from the rectifier which comes from the dynamo when the engine is in running condition. So just your rectifier and check the output of the dynamo to be sure thats OK............sodeep

My battery dies in a couple of days and my power windows work with key off. And it's not only when I first turn it off and open the door.I checked the cig lighter dome light for shorts. No fuse's blown.New...

Looks like the dynamo or the rectifier has malfunctioned. However if your headlight do not get dimmer the longer you drive at night(couple of hours min,), then the dynamo is OK but the rectifier responsible for charging the battery has somehow shorted, resulting your power windows operating with the key in off position.............sodeep

Not charging enough to keep battery charged and no dash gauges

The battery charger circuit has failed. If it has a fuse, see if its OK. This input comes from the dynamo, but if your headlights work, then the dynamo is OK. If you are not familiar with the electrical system like checking the leads with a multimeter then best to have a technician(vehicle electrical technician) to check it and if the fuse is OK then the rectifier may require replacement................sodeep
