Question about Ford F-150

1991 F-150 doesn't start when at operating temp. starts fine when cold. battery tests good and is new, alternator is putting out 14 volts. Timing is set to factory specs.

Starter is going bad. I had the exact problem in my 1990 full-size Bronco. Replacing the starter solved the problem.

The alternator is not charging the battery on my 2002 Alero, how do I fix this?

a bad battery would give a wrong judgement of an alternator output. take off your battery and replace with a working one, test your alternator output using a DMM it should read about 12.5 when engine off and 14v when engine start running any figure more or less shows you have a bad alternator or an incorrect input current to the alternator....hope this fixxx it?

The battery on my car goes dead after 2 week ,I have a new battery and cant find any obvious shorts

You have a parasitic draw. Put a test on a fully charge battery. Then put tester on the battery. Take one fuse at a time out and watch meter. Put it back in each time. You shouldnt have more than .5 draw. Your battery should be around 12.6, So with everything off your battery should be 12.6, if it is less then test each fuse and see whats making the draw. Maybe it wasn't running long enough to charge up the battery?
Stop trying to jump it, when you are having problems with it dying, take the battery off and have it charged. And/or buy a $20 voltmeter to see what the battery shows. If it says less than 12 volts, it is discharged, and needs charging. A good battery that is not run down should have at least 12.5 volts. A new battery that is charged should have very close to 13 volts, maybe 12.8 volts.
When you have the truck running, check the alternator for charging. You put the voltmeter right on the battery and check it again. This time, with truck running, battery should show at least 13.5 volts. That shows the alternator is working. A good alternator will put out about 13 or 14 volts-the regulator will keep it from going any higher to prevent problems, like a melting battery or electrical parts burning out.
I would say get the charging system working right, then address the problem of dying at stop lights. That could be a carburetor problem, if the alternator is working.

The car was running fine one day then the next day it would not start. We tried jumping it thinking the battery might be dead and it still would niot start. The car has power until we take the jumper...

Sounds like you have a toasted battery or alternator. Have you performed a load test on the battery? Have you tried to charge the battery? First remove the battery and charge it externally from the vehicle. If the battery won't hold a charge, or won't hold a charge of 12 volts, replace it. Once you have the vehicle started, test the operation of the alternator. It should be putting out at least 13 volts back to the battery to keep it charged - if it is putting less than 13 volts or more than 16 volts, replace the alternator.

Hi, to check the alternator, check the voltage with the engine running and the jumper cables removed. If the voltage is less than 14 VDC with the engine running, remove the alternator and have it tested at your local chain store.

Battery tests good, altenator tests good, battery light on. can jump but 03 explorer dies when cables are removed

How did you test the alternator? If you tested it by using a multimeter on the batteries while the jumper cables where still connected, then you were probably reading the alternator put out of the other vehicle if it was running as well. Or you read the combined volts of the batteries. Usually if a vehicle dies after removing the jumper cables then it is the alternator. I would use a multimeter to test the alternator while the explorer is running. It should be reading about 14 volts. The other possiblity could be the battery. You can voltage all day long, but if you dont have the required cold cranking amps then the truck wont start. You can take the battery and or the alternator into the autoparts store and get them tested for free.

Replaced alternator and battery in 2002 Chevy Tahoe. Battery voltage remains between 9 and 14 (leaning more towards 9 and at times falling completely until trucks shuts off)

When you say battery voltage how are you testing it? Are you looking at a gauge on the dash? Or are you physically testing it with a multi meter? If the truck is dying and you recently replaced the alternator and battery I would first suggest you to check all them connections again real good. Snug them all up. Check for corrosion and clean as needed. Did you replace the battery and alternator with new/re-manufactured battery and alternator? The alternator needs to put out at least 13.6 volts to charge your 12 volt battery or the battery will not maintain a charge. However the alternator runs the vehicle once it is started. The battery is used only to start the car and then the alternator runs it. So if your vehicle starts and runs and then dies you may have a bad alternator. Check your connections first and then test the alternator with a multi meter. Anything less than 13.6 volt will not suffice. 14+ volts would be the hopeful output of a good alternator.

My Nissan Almera won't start due to cold weather. this is the third time it's happened and each time the temperature has been below freezing. On the previous two occasions I jump started the car and it ran...

check voltage at battery, when running it should be 14 volts or a little higher, when engine is off it should be at least 13 volts at battery. if the alternator is not charging it will not replenish battery. if the alternator when running puts out at least 14 volts, then I would say its your battery. not letting car start. the battery could very well be bad. if you do not have a tester, any auto parts will test for voltage for free.

Truck will not cold start.

sounds like the alternator might not be charging the battery. i would see if the alternator was putting out 12-14 volts. you can do this by gettin the truck started and use a multimeter and check the terminals for 12-14 volts if it is under that then the alternator is the problem. also test this by puttin the battery under a load. i.e turn on lights, air and so on

You may have to replace your spark plugs. I recommend you remove two or more plugs and check them for carbon build-up that would prevent a good spark. Also check your air filter, if these dont solve your problem you may need to replace your fuel filter which should be located inside the drivers side frame rail.
