Cannot remove the ignition key

I cannot remove the ignition key. It stops in the Acc setting but will not turn any further. It's in park.

The solution was deep. Some good Samaritans helped my wife by parking her car in a parking lot at her church. When they retrieved the car, they opened the door lock very quickly, not fully disengaging the alarm switch. When the door was opened, the alarm went off. They opened the hood and did something with the wires and the alarm went out but the car wouldn't get out of park. I was called to get her going. When I arrived, I realized something had happened but didn't quickly find the fuse was blown for the brake. The sun was bright and my eyes aren’t what they used to be. I couldn’t read the fine print on the cover. I opened the console and strapped the lockout switch to quickly get her going. As she was pulling out, I saw the brake lights didn't work. As I said, I was unfamiliar with the fuses, very hard to read the cover, I told her to drive with the flashers on and she was off. When she got home in the evening, I, again, looked at her car. I found the blown fuse and replaced it. I opened the console and removed the strap from the lockout. It still didn't work so I decided to look on the Internet. When I shut off the car, the key wouldn't go past the Acc. Position so I couldn’t remove it. I looked on the Internet but didn't find anything free. Everyone wants to make money. I went down to the car and looked over every inch of linkage, then wiring. I found the wire on the limit switch in the console for the park position had broken off. I soldered it back on and everything was back and working. Thank you for getting back to me. Nothing is simple these days. Wiggling the steering wheel used to work in the old days. Today wiggling the Samaritans might help!

The limit switch inside the consol by the gear shift mechanism broke off, bad solder joint and not properly attached. Re solder and the key can be removed.

Try moving the steering wheel around left to right rapidly, maybe something has jarred the ignition switch.

Place key in ign. And turns with no clicks btw off acc and start. When you turn off, goes past off to acc no clicks

Hello Ron, If your car does not crank when you turn the key, it sounds as if you have problems with the ignition switch . Or the actuating rod is disconnected.

I put my car in park, and go to turn the car off in my 2011 Hyundai Sonata and it stops on the ACC and won't continue to the lock position and release my keys. How do I get them out?

that is usually caused by misalignment of the transmission shift linkage if it's a floor shift you can take the council apart and adjust itby removing just the top plate you'll see 2 sets of shift linkage rod one is for the transmission the other controls ignition lock this is a security feature to prevent you from locking the ignition while the car is in gear moving

Sometimes after I put my 2000 Buick Regal LS in Park and turn off the engine the ignition switch not the key gets stuck in the on and acc position. What causes this to happen?

Replace ignition switch (the tumbler portion) seems like its hanging up, and you shouldn't be able to remove the keys unless the switch is off.The park safety switch possibly. This switch tells the vehicle its in Park. Hope this helps.

Ignition switch only turns to acc won't turn all the way off

Try jamming your gear shifter all the way into park. The gear shifter not being all the way in park will stop the key from turning all the way off and being removed.
