Its only 10 years old. Thats fairly new to me,if in good shape. Why are you going that route. Rebuild the original if necessary. There are ways to do it, but I would be here for hours to discuss it. You can get stand alone modules for the trans. The hard part ,is to what are you going to do with the pcm, looking for all sorts of inputs you now eliminated. Your best bet is the truck magazines, car craft, hot rod etc. They do these articles sometimes.

Transmission leak out dipstick and hear vacum leak

The vacuum leak is not from the transmission, there are no vacuum lines hooked to the transmission it is fully electronically controlled. As far as the fluid goes is the transmission overfilled? Does it operate normally? To check the source of the vacuum leak get a can of Carburetor spray and spray it around the noise, when you hear a loud sucking noise and the engine slows down struggles and starts to stall then you found the leak.

Where does the vacum hose on the side of the transmission go on my 96 tahoe

That probably is not a vacuum hose, it is probably your vent. Your transmission should be fully electronic and is not vacuum controlled.

I have a 2005 Chevy pu. I've replaced coil pack&

Hello
The engine and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

1997 pontiac Sunfire will not shift into gear. I can shift it by hand with the lever on top of the transmission but it still will not move. Is there a vacum modulater on this model of car?

a vacum modulator does not prevent a car from shifting into gear. Usually when a car fails to move, internal parts of the transmission break and sometimes shatter prevent the clutch pack from functioning. The purpose of a vacum modulator is to allow the transmission to shift smoothly from one gear to the next, but now on allot of cars these days transmissions are solely controlled by the computer. If you transmission does have a vacum modulator then your will find a steel vacum line from the engine going to your transmission with short pieces of hose connecting the lines together.

Transmission will get stuck in a gear and wont up shift to the next gear or it will constantly up shift and down shift

suggest you check for a vacum line off that goes to the transmission modulator valve, which controls the shifting in transmission.or may possibly just be a bad modulator valve on the side of the transmission. 1st check for a vacum line off, with engine running do you hear a whistling or air sucking sound on top or rear of motor? if so, follow that sound to a hose or small black hose thats off.if you are driving the car and start off in low drive and can manually shift to upper gears with no problems, your problem is either a vacum line off, or it's a bad modulator valve on the transmission. hope this helps!!!

My speedomiter quit working. Does my truck have a electronic or cable hookup?

All you have to do is look at the transmission in order to tell.
A cable will be thick and straight, while an electronic unit will use a thin, flexible, wire.

If the fluid is up -
it could be a vacume loss or the shifting module..
The shifting module is what tells it to shift - and it is controled by vacume pressure..
