Try resetting the ground screw if there is a seperate wire which goes to a nearby screw. The socket itself may provide the ground when it's inserted into the mount. That area can become tarnished too. How many wires go to the socket and how many contacts on the base of the bulb? You need as many wires as contacts + 1 for the ground, unless the socket is self grounding.

1992 GMC C1500. Drivers side blinker/brake/hazard light don't work.replaced bulbs. plugged taillight assembly into opposite side and it works so it isn't anything in the taillight assembly. ???????

First check all your fuses.

If all fuses are good, you may have a wiring problem. If you are mechanically inclined, will need to remove the required components to expose wiring and see if you have a break somewhere. Most wiring harnesses run along inside of vehicle trunk. Then, they continue under rear seats and possibly under carpeting.

How to install a harness for trailer lights on a 1993 honda accord station wagon

The SIMPLE way to do it is...

You can buy replacement taillight bulbs with wiring pigtail wiring hanging out of the side of the bulb. You'd use them to replace your existing taillight bulbs and connect your trailer harness to the pigtail wires. You may need to drill through the taillight housing to get the harness wiring in to the bulbs - if you have to do that, seal it back up around the wiring with RTV silicone.

That's a lot easier than tracking down each wire, probing it to find out what it does, and splicing into it with pinch splices (which aren't very reliable), then periodically replacing the pinch splices that've gone bad and made your trailer lights fail. You can make a pretty good splice to the pigtailed taillight bulbs, and it's really easy to tell what each pigtail does - brake/turn or park light.

2007 ml320 cdi left brake light will not come on

It is apparent that the wire between the current sensor that the computer monitors and the left brake light socket is open. Thus the computer knows the brake light is not working because it is not drawing current. If you have a wiring diagram, you can probably find the broken wire or bad connection. This may take some time. To get the left brake light working, you can jumper the left brake light socket to the right brake light socket. Warning, this may cause the computer to register the extra current on the right side as a short circuit and shut both off. If that happens you will have to forgo the left brake light until you get the open circuit corrected.

How can I take off the tail light assembly to replace the bulb for the left tu

Open the trunk. In the left corner where the lamp assembly is, you should see two screw covers that cover the screws holding in the lamp assembly.

Remove these covers to find the screws, and unscrew them to pull the taillamp assembly out of the vehicle body. Disconnect the lamp wiring harness, turn the bulb socket counterclockwise to pull out the socket, revealing the light bulb. Then pull the bulb right out of the socket and replace it with a new bulb.

Replace the socket, turning it clockwise. Replace the taillight assembly. Check that the taillamp assembly tab, located at the bottom of the taillamp assembly, is aligned to the facia bracket before securing the screws.

Screw the taillamp assembly back into the vehicle body and replace the screw covers. Check to make sure the new bulb works properly.

Your owners manual specifies that the rear left turn lamp is a lamp with bulb number 3057K. You should be able to find them at any automotive store or from your dealer. Hope this helps.

Brake lights failing

Hi,

Both issues would seem to be a loose/corroded connection and most probably the grounding. The brake light is part of the taillight. Most taillights operate with dual filament bulb (3 terminal). The metal body of the bulb bottom is usually connected to the body ground. The correct procedure would be to trace the wiring harness from the taillight and determine which is the ground and verify that the contacts are clean and free of corrosion. An alternative is to add a grounding wire from said metal body of the taillight bulb and attached to any bare metal/chassis/body in the rear. The same loose ground could cause the inconsistent battery indicator.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
