I had forgot to mention that when it first acted up my daughter would let it run about 1minute then the light would turn off and the powersteering would start working again. it only happened at the time when it was cold and sitting, but then after the first time they said it was fixed she was driving and the light came on and then the powersteering quit working she pulled over turned the car off restarted car and then the light went off and of course the steering started working. They keep saying it not mechanical but all electrical as i said The diagnostic is not showing up anything mechanical, What should I tell them to look for.I really don't want them to tear apart the car and cost me thousands of dollars and it doesn't fix the problem. I'm really concerned that I got a LEMON.

They haven't even put it up in the air to see if there is any leaks, none visible at this point, since the powersteering is electric, I guess this is what they are going buy, and yes the car was in an accident don't know where the damage was but it cost around 11k to fix. Our local mechanics don't know how to work on foreign cars so I am at the Volvo EXPERTS (suppose to be).

HI. This is not an electrical issue. This is mechanical. The actual power steering gear is malfunctioning, the necessary actions are to have the entire power steering assembly replaced, asap. NOTE_ Kindly inspect for leakages within the hose assembly. Normally, when this occurs, it will indicate seal issues within the pump, or hose connections. I don't understand why your local mechanic is assuming electronic failure at this time. This is certainty a mechanical issue here. Check the fluid level, as well. Low fluid levels can produce the symptoms you are experiencing.

The main focal point will be the actual pump. Instruct your mechanic to visual inspect the pump for leaks, and pulley damage. The pulley is connected to the internal gear. If the gear is missing a few teeth, the pump may seize at times, during transit. I would also allow for a second opinion on this matter buy another mechanic, if possible. I sense that the current mechanic may be inflating this issue. A second opinion, locally, wouldn't hurt. The main issue here will be the pump. The internal damage may not show up in the basic diagnostic check. This is an intermediate issue. The pulley, and gear should be check for looseness at the pump housings, as well. Any abnormalities in the above stated areas will signal pump failure.

You stated all electrical corresponding parts have been replaced. This will confirm that the issue is mechanical. Check your local lemon laws for actual content. Most lemon laws are quite different from state to state. Due to the isolated nature of this particular issue, I doubt that this is a lemon. It is possible, but doubtful. You can retrieve a car-fax report on line. This will give you all previous owner information, and accident reports, as well.

I see. I think its safe to say that the previous accident may have been some sort of frontal collision. If this is correct, the electric pump sector may have been compromised. The price for the previous repair is quite high. At that rate, most insurance companies would have totaled the investment. In order to thoroughly inspect the affected parts(pump, wires and wire connections), the vehicle must be elevated. This will allow for a most thorough wire, and connection inspection.

OK, I would also instruct the service tech to inspect the wiring at the fuse box, and Engine computer(ECU/ECM/PCM). Have all connectors inspected for worn contacts, or separated wiring.

I will continue to monitor this thread for further discussion, if needed.

Hi, i have message appeared on dashboard volvo v50 2.0d 2005 "engine sistem service required", could you tell me what is that mean. thanks

Millage service message can be reset without dealer tools. However this is an error message. You need diagnostic tool to check the error code. All you can do right now is to enter hidden menu and check which module is reporting issue (DTC code).

It is time for my 2006 volvo s40 to have its 30,000 mile service. the volvo dealership is going to charge me about $350, whereas express tune and lube will charge me $184. both tell me the basic info...

I think that the best service comes at a dealer, in general, but it's not always necessary to have service performed at the dealer, especially when trying to economize.

I couldn't find online information about the 2006 Volvo S40, so that means that buying the service manual should help to find the information that you require.

Good luck on choosing a service center for maintenance of your vehicle.

What to do when the maintenance light come on in the volvo s60 2006

You have to have it reset. This is done by Volvo after the car has been serviced.

However, all you need do is go to a workshop and pay them a small fee to connect your car to their equipment and reset the light.
