Make sure when you are shifting your transfer case in and out of 4wd that your tranny is in the neutral position. This allows all the gears to slow down to synchronize. Try that and if doesn't work write another post and I will reply, Roger

Jeep Liberty 4WD Problem

its fall. and 100s of posts every year on this, and nobody can read the manual.
nor can i guess if you bought Command Trac or select track
nor if driving on ICE or dirt.
you have command track, and must never be driving on ice free pavement, same as ww2 jeep that or CJs

this is called wind up, read the operators guide,
it tells you never to do that... in the guide,
there is no center differential in your car. zero.
so one tire must be on ice or dirt (sand/grass, gravel or ice)
see why

if you ignore this damage can happen see some now.
posted 100 times this.
you bought the wrong jeep, it seems. to me.....

called WINDED up. and puts huge forces on that poor chain,

stop and RTM.
as you turn the car, the tires roll at different speeds, so do the front and rear axles.
this force is huge.
and the driveline can not handle that.
on the SELECT trac, (not 4Low) there is a clutch
that slips or a real center differential.
but not on your car.

the first symptoms are bucking and jerking in turns
and noise (all bad) and gear lever sticks.
when fully wound up the gear dogs JAM hard.
i have a jeep TSB
that states
ok you wound it up.
jack up one tire. and shift back to 2H.
(yes, the least damaging way to correct this)
and damage on gear boxes is accumulative.

the false illusion is driving straight, in 4H
and its seems ok, (sure all 4 tires turning same speed sure...)
but not in turns.
but you tell me how you can drive all day going
straight. and what is the point of that>??>

google how to use part time 4wheel drive.
learn how it works and how not.

I want to change a 3.7 motor off of 2004 jeep Liberty 2wd in order to fit my 2002 jeep liberty 4wd?

engine swaps are complex as is mixing engines to wrong transmissions.
so both are 3.7L, is that it?
you never said what exacty didnt fit.
the flex plate to TC
or TC to A/T pump side mismatch.
if its the flex then get the correct flex plate.
or call jeep parts? ask them for the right parts
the side of the trans has the trans part number
my guess is all you need is the correct flex plate for engine to TC.

I have a Jeep Liberty 2005, 60,000 miles on it.. Had to use part time 4 wheel drive to get out of sand last week.. went back into 2 wheel so I thought. Did the frontward/ backwards thing you need to

4L or 4H??????
is this Selectrac???? has 5 mode do say going from which mode to mode you did. and did so before or after leaving the sand.

drive it on sand, dirt gravel, ice, or grass
in 2wd and it will un wind
my guess is you wound it up. the drive line in PT 4wd.
did you read the operators guide carefully ?
this year is last year for free opr, guide. 2005
10 year range it is.

page 239?
tow 244
the Selectrac has FT 4wD. do you have that?
if not , you must get it to unwind.
do tell what drive line you have
what mode uses.
and when
and if the lamps changed correct before leaving sand.
or for sure, not in AWD

My alarm on a 2002 Jeep Liberty won`t switch off, i`ve now put new battery`s in the remove as i thought that might be the problem but no. please advice?

Did you do a hard reset on the brain? Disconnect the positive terminal on the battery and leave it disconnected for like 10 min. then reinstall the positive wire to the battery. If that doesnt work then there are two possibilities.
1. The remote is faulty 2. The brain or reciever is faulty.
seek service or a new alarm.

2005 Jeep Liberty stuck in Part Time 4wd

I questioned the dealer about my 2005 because mine was disengaging what I thought to be rough compared to what I was used to. They told me that I should shift the vehicle into Neutral before shifting the selector. I have also found that shifting between Reverse and Drive a couple of times while stopped has helped as well. By doing these couple of things, I have had no trouble since. I hope this helps as it might at least be something to try.
