Changed fuel filter and now will not start 5.9 L diesel

you have to pump the system up to pressurize it.

The filters should have been filled with fuel prior to assembly onto the engine in order to aid this pressurization process.

there should be a manual pump under the hood on the fuel line... use that till pumping gets hard.

Using large amounts of fuel

First off, this sounds like a mass air flow sensor problem or an oxygen sensor problem. Other things to consider are fuel line leaks at connections. Your fuel pump might even be faulty. I would first start looking at the spark plugs to see if they are fouled and replace them if they are real bad. Most of the time the oxygen sensors or mass air flow sensor are messing up, improper gas and air mixtures cause rough acceleration and poor idling as well.

When i put on my brakes, my car dies. It will start up but will not stay running without foot on gas. Replaced fuel filter. Mechanic thinks a sensor or valve may be messed up. Can you help

sounds like a possible problem with the power brake booster, its vacuum operated when you step on the brake pedal, it uses a large amount of eng vacuum, i would check the booster or the vacuum line and one way check valve in the line itself.

Drove threw large amount of water!

Drain all the fuel out of your vehicle. Remove the air filter and check to make sure water did not get into the fuel injection system. If you did you will also need to drain your oil and replace that also. Last check your tranny and make sure not water is in there.

Wont start overfueling

Try squeezing the flexible fuel hose so that just enough fuel gets through to the engine to allow it to run,If you get vehicle to run then its a supply of power to the injectors keeping them spraying large amounts of fuel, pressure relief valve has failed or lost ability to relieve pressure in fuel rail or fuel return line is blocked. Some fuel pumps are capable of supplying excessive pressure but vehicles own relief should be working. Also dirty or unservicable injectors can give you the symptoms you describe.Let me know how you go
