Question about 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass
The most likely cause, without seeing what is causing the window to bind before it reaches the top, is your plastic rollers that ride in the track of the regulator are worn out, or the regulator is defective, causing the gear in the motor to skip. You can purchase these parts at many auto supply chains. The only real way to tell is to remove the inside door panel and inspect the windows operation in the up and down mode. It is common for the regulators to wear out, causing the gear on the motor to skip at a certain height while closing. To replace all the components is approx. $130.00 bucks at the most, and under 15.00 for roller replacement. Or you can check out the nearest salvage yard and purchase a good used part(s) at a fraction of the new cost.
