If you stand on the passengers side of the car in front of the fender with the hood open you will lean over the belts and pulleys of the engine.
You will see 2 hoses running out of the back of what look like a small black resivior, it will have a black cap on it with a little picture of a steering wheel on it.
That is the power steering.
Make sure you check the marks on the dip stick on the end of the cap and do not overfil it.
Please let me know what you find.

Don't know exactly on your particular car, but look at the belt(s) on the front of the engine. The power steering pump will most likely be driven off of it/them. The pump will have a reservoir either attached to the pump itself or remote somewhere close. Look for a twist cap that has a short dipstick on the bottom of it...you'll see it when you take it off.

Power steering fluid?

The power steering on your 2005 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx has electronic power-assist and not hydraulic power-assist so there is no hydraulic fluid. If you're not already aware, this vehicle is part of a major recall from General Motors for power steering failure. Contact your local Chevrolet dealership for more information. You will need your vehicles VIN as shown on your registration or dash plaque. Hope this helps.

Transmission whines under load. Fresh fluid and filter change and levels are proper. Shifts fine and no slipping. No metal in the pan when the fluid was changed.

Are you sure it is the transmission making the noise? How many miles on the car? AND did you chekc the power steering fluid level ?

We're having a popping sound in the steering in my 2006 malibu maxx hatchback ? Is there a recall . Please help

i just bought a 2005 malibu maxx from a dealership. It was having a popping sound when i would turn the wheel back and forth. Had the dealership fix it. THEY said they replaced the ( rack and pinion ) for the steering on the car. Don't think there is a recall on that. GM had a lot of problems with that popping noise on their malibu maxx. Hope that might help.

My alternatibe power source is out

I'll bet it is a fuse blown. I'm not certain if that one is under the dash or under the hood. Check your owners manual. I hope this helps you.

Where is fuse in fuse box on chevy malibu 2004

There are 2 fuse panels in car, 1 under hood and the second under drivers side of dash, above hood release area. Radio fuse should be under dash, most likely a blue(15amp) fuse. The fuse panel glossery should be on inside cover of fuse panel or in owners manual under fuses in glossery.
