Question about Jaguar XJ8
If you go to the bottom rear of the engine it's located on the lower pan and looks like this;
This for the 4.0 engine DOHC SFI 8 cylinder.

If its sparking at all you might want to look elsewhere. i would start by checking condition of all the plugs and replacing if necessary. the problem is probably going to lie in your ignition module. check all your battery connections and make sure all are tight and clean. if the connections are dirty, this can effect driveability also.

It is located on the front part of the engine block, it is part 15 on diagram below. Please see the pictures:
