Usually you have to put it back in park to re-start your car. That is why it didn't start back up. I've done that before but yes it's because you have to put it back in park or neutral to start.

Good Luck!

Takes two people. Block the wheels, climb under the car and check the linkage.

Transmission shifts into reverse nice and smooth...shift into drive and there is no noise nor does it engage at all into drive??? This happened after car was stuck in snow...after shifting from drive and...

u should check ur transmission fluid to see if it is dark (burnt) if so ur gonna b outa luck u most likely burnt it up. fluid will also have a strong burnt smell if it is black. trannys build up alot of heat wen trying to get unstuck in snow an ice. diminished air flow through radiator or trans cooler wen stuck also adds more heat to the unit, especially wen running it hard on ice. they get hot really fast

If it won't back up it is not electrical. The transmission will need replaced or rebuilt.

Both ball joints need replacing

just normal wear, i am like you, they should last longer, and some do, and others don't, thats the nature of the beast. back in the day, they put grease serts in so you could grease them, and very seldom they went out. you did not do any damage to them from the snow or by rocking back and forth. hope this shead some light on your delima. 4LO problem

Sounds like you may have a problem with the power steering pump. Notorious for these pumps shaft to break, causing "armstrong" power steering. As far as the 4wd low problem, ick.
