The average person can not fix this problem the only thing you can do is check the wiring harness that is connected to the transmission to make sure it is plugged in tight and make sure it is not damaged. If it looks OK take it to a Transmission shop. The transmission has to come out and the solenoid fixed and or replaced inside the transmission

1996 Cadillac Deville not shifting into drive or top gear. Also starts in second. Traction control button doesn't change anything. Flushed fluid but no change.

change shift solinoids. located in transmission pan. 4.6l north star has a 4t80e tranny. remove bolts holding pan drop pan . now disconnect the shift solinoids thair are 2 u should see several bolts around 20 bolts holdong the valve body to the transmission unscrew thees bolts . ( 10MM) before removing all bolts disconnect the hook with a clip going to the valve body.its located to a spring and lever. now remove rest of bolts. DO NOT LET IT FALL DOWN. remove the connector going to manifold pressure sensor. use a flat head screw driver to pull clips holding the solinoids in place. thair should be a small **** located on the other side of throdle body. DO NOT REMOVE ALL THE BOLTS OUT OF THE BODY. THAIR ARE BALL BERINGS INSIDE THAT WILL FALL OUT OF PLACE. the screen is located in between the shift solinoids. DO NOT DO THIS JOB WITHOUT ALREADY HAVING THE REPLACMENT PARTS ON HAND. when putting every thang back together i would check the wiring harness for anny shorts . The overdrive fuse keeps going out

You need to check the circut for a shorted wire. If it takes a little time than you probaly need to replace the overdrive solinoid located in the valvebody. If you have the overdrive button in the gear shift handle than check the switch and wires going down to the steering colum. However it is more than likely the solinoid is shorting out.

I have a 1991 Volvo 740 w/an automatic transmission.A couple of months ago the overdrive indicator ( red arrow ) started to turn on and it doesn't turn off when I press the button. When I drive, it seems...

It may be a faulty relay - usually behind the radio - it makes a clicking sound when you hit the button on the shift lever. Or it may be the overdrive solinoid which is mounted on the top of the tranny. Check all of your connestions first. One other thing - the wire from the shift lever overdrive button to the overdrive solenoid on the tranny may run over the top of the drive shaft - check for wear

Transmission has to be manually down shifted at stops

I have a similar issue with my vehicle. I either have to shift to neutral or it stalls. The advice I received was to unplug the 4 prong connector at the front of the transmission. What truly is the problem, as I was told, it the overdrive lockup solinoid inside the trans cover. I looked at replacing it and it looks like a tough job to do, lots of brackets to remove to remove the cover. Looks like the solinoid is on top of the trans, but getting to it is another story. Good luck.

All wheel drive transmission

if it is a 4l60e transmission its all electronic and it has solinoids to do the shifting it sounds like the drive or overdrive solinoid is not working
