The engine is tapping and exhaust smokes

If the smoke is blue, then the cause is likely to be wear in the piston rings,or wear in the valve seals. The noise if its light tapping its likely to be from the camshaft or tappets. If its a more heavy sound its likely to come from lower part of the engine either crankshaft or pistons ,a good mechanic will soon tell you. These problems are normally seen in high mileage vehicles and its likely you will have to do a major overhaul or replace this engine.I hope this was of some use.

Engine has low sound knock or tap after you drive

this could be a collapsed piston skirt. if you pull the plug wire off on the cylinder that is making the noise and the noise goes away that is the cylinder that has the problem. it can also be a lower connecting rod bearing noise.

2.8 liter engine metallic noise when running

IF you have a timing chain it will come as a rattle if worn. If worn hydraulic tappets they will tap excessively at idle on lower oil pressure. If it is a knock the by removing each plug lead in turn and it alters it may be a bigend or main bearing A tinny rattle may be a failing drive plate (flexiplate) that teh torque converter is bolted to

I have a tapping in the engine what can be causing it

It's pretty tough for one of us to diagnose from afar without actually hearing it, but here are your possibilities: Lifter noise - low oil, worn - noise comes from upper engine Bearings (main & rod) - again low oil, worn - normally loud from lower engine
Exhaust leak - exhaust manifold and/or gasket - tick from side of engine, gets worse with engine RPMs
I'd have a competent shop look at it for you to get exact fault.

2004 trail blazer knocking sound from engine. Started intermiten and then progressed into louder sound.

bad news...that generally is caused by a bad rod or main bearing (both require engine removal to do it correctly) Or, other cause can be a broken (cracked) flywheel. Bearing problems are generally accompanied by lower than normal oil pressure. flywheel just makes noise with no other symptoms. Have a good reliable shop check it It takes some real experience to differentiate between these noises so only use a shop with good techs and reputation.
If the noise is tapping and not knocking it can also be a rocker arm or lifter.
