Depends on how bright the light is and if you have any accessories on... if you have a dome light on or anything it would be normal for you to have a test light light up

When not running the engine for a week, the battery dies. When I jump start it, engine will start cranking very slow and pickup speed before it starts running.

it seems like the battery is going. clean battery terminals, also the grounding to the body (engine block, transmission, etc.) all should be shiny cleaned. suggest you go to autozone (or other auto parts) for a free battery & alternator tests.

Tip

Find ing a short

One way to find if there is an electrical short or something that is making your battery dead is with a test light. To do this. you need to disconnect the neg cable at the battery and hook up a test light between the negative cable and the negative post of the battery. If the test light is lit up real bright than you have a drainage. Leave the test light hooked up and start pulling fuses{ one at a time} until the test light goes out. When the test light goes out, look in the owners manual to find out what the fuse controls ,to see if anything was left on.

I had my brake shoes replaced from a dealer. I drove the car home and let it sit for a week. When I tried to start it the battery was completely drained. I know I have a short to ground or something...

ok first off if you go from neg terminal to batt terminal you will get 12 volt because you are completing the circuit, you need to do an ohms drop not a voltage drop to see where you are at first

On my 94 jeep im having an electrical problem, something is killing my battery and i checked the alternator and my starter and i can not find the solution something is killing my battery rapidly please...

START THE VEHICLE, PUT A VOLTMETER ON THE BATTERY. THE VOLTAGE SHOULD READ 13.90 TO 14.80. IF THAT IS OK, THERE MAY BE A BATTERY DRAIN. TURN OFF EVERY SWITCH IN THE CAR.CLOSE ALL THE DOORS. MAKE SURE ALL THE COURTESY LIGHTS ARE GOING OUT. & THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT LIGHT. RAISE THE HOOD. DISABLE ANY UNDER HOOD LIGHTS. DISCONNECT THE NEG. CABLE FROM THE BATTERY. PUT A 12 VOLT TEST LIGHT, ONE END ON THE NEG BATTERY POST & THE OTHER END ON A GOOD GROUND { METAL }. IF THE LIGHT COMES ON THERE IS A BATTERY DRAIN. NO LIGHT , NO DRAIN. IF IT'S ON, ONE AT A TIME PULL THE FUSES OUT OF THE POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX. IF THE LIGHT STAYS LIT, PUT THE FUSE BACK. DO THIS WITH ALL THE FUSES BIG & SMALL. IF THE LIGHT STAYS LIT, DISCONNECT THE ALTERNATOR. THEY CAN CHARGE THE BATTERY WHILE RUNNING, & DRAIN WHEN STOPPED.

New battery and new altenator and but battery wont stay charged

HAS THE ALTERNATOR BEEN TESTED ? WITH THE MOTOR RUNNING, THE VOLTAGE READING SHOULD BE SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 13.60 & 14.80. IF THAT SEEMS O.K. WITH EVERYTHING IN THE CAR IN THE OFF POSITION, ALL THINGS UNPLUGGED FROM CIGARETTE LIGHTER SOCKETS, ALL DOOR, TRUNK SHUT, & IF THERE IS AN UNDERHOOD LIGHT UNPLUG IT OR REMOVE THE BULB. TAKE OFF THE NEGATIVE CABLE FROM THE BATTERY CONNECT A 12 VOLT TEST LIGHT, ONE END TO THE NEG POST OF THE BATTERY, & THE OTHER END OF THE TEST LIGHT TO THE CABLE YOU JUST REMOVED. IF THE TEST LIGHT IS LIT, THERE IS A BATTERY DRAIN. UNPLUG ONE AT A TIME, ALL RELAYS & THE ALTERNATOR, TO ISOLATE THE DRAIN.

Battery keeps running down, what is the best way

The new alternator may have a closed regulator draining the battery, put a volt meter,or test light in line with the ground cable, remove the ground cable, and put the test light clip on the ground cable, and the tip of the test light to the negative battery post,or contact,it does not have a post,If it lights the test light, and it does not fade off, then there is a draw, unplug the alternator regulator plug, see if that turns the test light off,if it does, then the alternator is defective, then if need to continue testing, remove the interior light fuse, completly, and then pull one fuse at a time,to see if the test light goes off, when it does, that is the circuit that is drawing the battery down. The clocks will pull to many amps sometimes and cause this also,be sure to disconnect the battery over night to make sure the battery is good also,so you wont be doing all this for nothing, and you may want to have the battery load tested.

Batery won't hold acharge

battery won't hold charge could either be bad cell in battery or you have a charging problem with your alternator, First I would chech your charging voltage should be around 14.2 volts while at idle, if ok then i would do a load test on battery and then a cell test, very possible could have a shorted out battery.

Battery will dran over a short time and is the second new battery

The best way I have found to hunt down a current draw is with a multi meter set to the DCA setting (this will detect DC current flow). With the vehicle shut off, systematically remove fuses one at a time and place the leads from the meter in the connectors that held the fuse (one lead per fuse connection). You should have a little current flowing to the radio, for the clock, and maybe some to the engine computer and, if equipped, the alarm, the rest of the circuits should have no draw. This will narrow down your search to one circuit in the car, which can than be further diagnosed, usually it's a wire with the insulation rubbed through.
P.S. if the car has any after market equipment, such as audio amplifiers, start your search there. Hope this helps, good luck!!!!

02 ford focus battery dies over night having problems checking for a draw in the system any help

Disconnect the negative battery cable and put a test light between the cable end and the neg post. If there is a draw, the light will light. Remember the doors need to be closed and the underhood light disconnected (these are draws as well). If the light is lit there is a draw. Removing fuses until the light goes out can pinpoint the circuit. Finding the actual short can tougher.

Electrical short drawing down the battery. I have replaced the battery and checked lights and radio...

Pull the neg. battery cable off the battery and connect a test light between the neg. cable and the neg. battery post if there is a draw it will light up. Make sure the doors are shut and ign. is off and start by pulling the fuses one at a time to see if the test light goes out(making sure to replace each fuse before moving on to the next one) if the light goes off then you have found the circuit that is pulling the draw, once you narrow it down it should be pretty easy to find exactly what is drawing the battery down.
