Question about 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

2 Answers

I have a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T and my winshield wipers will not work. We replaced the motor a few months ago and the motor is still working, it's the blades that won't move. Any ideas ? Thanks

Thos could be a couple of things, first it might be the linkage from the motor to the wiper arms it may have poped out of the ball joint connecting them both, it also could be that where the wiper arms connect to the car boddy, the teeth might have burred off and instead of being like a cog type fitting it might be just smooth hence it will not grip the wiper arms to move them , just a little tip if it is the second senario, get a coke can (dosent have to be coke any can will do so long as it is thin alloy) cut 2 rectangular shapes out the, remove the wiper arms, now size the rectangles to the size of the wiper motor cogs that the wiper arms connect to, fold the tin round ( make sure it does not overlap just the right size rap) then replace the wiper arm ( it may need a bit of a tap to get it home) then tighten the nut up then this should work...hope that helps, if its the first senario, you might have to replace the mechanisum, which i can tell you is a nightmare to do..sorry

Have you replaced only the motor or including the gear box (where the input shaft to the linkages is located)?

YOU NEED TO TURN OFF RADIO FIRST THEN DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. YOU NEED TO MARK POSITION OF THE WIPER ARMS ON THE WINDSHIELD YOU CAN USE WHITE OUT LIQUID PAPER TO MARK WIPER ARMS LOCATION.THEN REMOVE WIPER ARMS,REMOVE THE COWL COVER,REMOVE THE WIPER MOTOR LINKAGE MOUNTING BOLTS.REMOVE ASSEMBLY, DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR AND UNBOLT THE MOTOR FROM THE LINKAGE.

You likely don't need a new motor. You just have to get your wipers repacked with grease.

Just bought 2004 passat and winshield wipers dont work

If both wipers are not working, then first of all check your fuses, if fuses are good follow wiper motor wires or look in owner's manual to find the wiper relay. Test relay with ohmmeter to see if it is good or just replace it.
Double check all wiring.
Last possible cause would be the a bad wiper switch which you can also test with an ohmmeter

The wiper slowed and finally stopped working altogether. There is a bit of movement when starting up the wipers.

Sounds like the motor is tired. BUT!check the switch first. variable speed switches fail more often than wiper motors.

The Rear Wipers on my 2001 1500 Chevy Suburban Stopped working

Unplug the connector at the rear wiper motor, turn the switch on and probe the wires with a test lamp, if you have power back there you more than likely have a bad motor. If there is no power start checking fuses they are all labeled easily on the back side of the fuseblock covers both on the dash and underhood. Good Luck!!!
