Scuff the tab with a little sandpaperand wipe off with a rag. Use a bottle of "white out" and paint the tab. Wipe it off with a rag and the "white out" will stay in the grooves. You should be able to read the tab. Hope this helps.

Just put my 4.3 vortec back in time and it starts kinda but it just sits there and goes pa pa pa pa and spits and sputters like its only runnin on one cylinder i cant figure it out could it be the crank...

Im not sure what all you have done. You just put it in time with a timming light? I put new wires and cap rotar button on mine one time. And I dont know why but I put the wires on like it is turning counterclockwise. And it ran like that. After I put it clockwise it ran like a charm. Did you time it to zero deg tdc? And unhook the advance wire under the glove box? Its a little brown and white wire. I think.

Take a 94 5.7 and put it in a 96 tahoe

Hopefully the cylinder heads are good or repairable and the intake manifold can be mounted on the 94 short block for optimal results. Those heads are worth fixing and returning back to service. The next major hurdle would be the ECM and wiring harness as the 1996 is OBDII which creates huge differences in the old school 94 E/C.All the more reasons to continue using all the 96 items from the heads up .

I need to set the distributor timing

These vehicles have to have the timing set while hooked up to a diagnostic computer as they are self setting once they have been zeroed with the diag, computer. if you try to set it on your own you will just be fighting the vehicles control module (computer)
