Question about 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

2 Answers

2004 Chevy Classic. I have never had a problem like this before. I drove my car in the morning, but when I got off work, my key would not turn. My ignition is locked, but my steering wheel is not. I have turned the wheel and it does not lock. What can I do?

IF YOU HAVE AIRBAGS IN UR STEERING WHEEL, UR GONNA HAVE TO TAKE IT TO UR DEALER FOR SAFETY SAKE. AIRBAGS USE A SMALL EXPLOSIVE TO MAKE THEM DEPLOY. IF THE STEERING WHEEL DOESN'T HAVE AIRBAG, UR IN LUCK. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL WITH A PULLER. THERE SHOULD BE SOMETHING RESEMBLING A "STAR" WHEEL. THERE IS A DETENT THAT GOES INTO ONE OF THE "STAR" LOBES. MAYBE THE DETENT IS STUCK AND A LITTLE LUBE WILL FREE IT UP. OR MAYBE YOU WILL NEED TO LINE UP THE "STAR" WITH THE DETENT.

Do a 2004 Chevy classic have a fuel pump access panel

no,your anti theft device is activated, you need to lock and unlock your doors a couple times with the key fob,not the key,and then you need to put the key in the ignition and start it,if you dont have your key fob, call your car dealer to get a new one, they are programmed for each car only, you cannot bypass it.

It could be something to do with the rack n pinion. I also own a 2004 chevy malibu classic and I have had to change the "steering rack." Now dont hold me to that, but with a little more info on how the car is acting and driving I may be able to further assist this problem. Hope this helps. Good luck

I have a 2004 chevy cavalier with a manual transmission. This morning when I turned on the key there is a loud consistent sound behind the center of the dashboard where the stereo/air controls/vents are. ...

Sounds like the air vent actuator has gone bad and will need to be replaced. Try changing the settings to your vent and temperature to see if the noise goes away or you can try resetting it but disconnecting the battery for 2 min and reconnecting it again.
The vent actuators will sometimes loose there knowledge or position and will try to keep moving the vent, even though it is at it's limits. If resetting it does not help, good chance is that the plastic gears in the actuators have gone bad and the whole unit will need to be replace if you have lost any controls to your vent or air temperature.
Thank you for using fixya and please keep us posted.
