Question about 2002 Jeep Liberty

2002 Jeep Liberty P0174 code and mech has changed the o2 sensor

I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty Limited with 97000 miles. Recently the check engine light came on with a code of P0174 and I took it to a mechanic. They said it was the o2 sensor and replaced it. It ran fine for a couple days then the problem returned with same code. Took it back and they said it was a faulty MAP sensor (it was full of oil) and the o2 sensor. After they fixed it, a mere 10 miles of driving later the light came back on and the same code. Took it back for a third time and they said it was the o2 sensor again and that they replaced it with the actual Jeep part. It worked fine for a little over a week and now the engine light is back on with the same code. Any ideas?

Can't tell you exactly what is wrong but the one thing you said is of concern...Map sensor should not be full of oil. If it is, I'd want to know why. In finding the reason for that, you may also find the reason why you are having a problem.
Jeep uses two kinds of engine crank venting. you either have a pcv valve or an orifice controlled system. If either are obstructed it can overpressure the crankcase and cause all kinds of problems.
Years of experience tells me this isn't something I can guess at and be 100% sure I have the right answer but based on what you said, I'd look there first!

Check the wires at the back of the harness plug for any breaks. Some times they break inside the coating, so pull on them. If they stretch, it broke.

Service engine light on no power loss code was for oxsensor changed up and lower light is still on

Maybe the light just needs to be reset "or" after changing some O2-sensor\'s you have to drive the car 50+ miles for the computer to reset and the light to go out. Go to you Mech or Advanced Auto and ask them to connect their meter and reset the check engine light, Advanced does it for free and they will tell you if something else is now wrong; maybe by changing both of those it tripped something else. did you put it on a meter after changing those? And, have you driven the car more than 50mi since changing them? I worked for a car dealer who changed a few O2 sensors in a minivan and I drove the sucker for over 100 miles before that light went out. That original 50+ miles is supposed to be non-stop driving too.

P0430 Cat efficiency below threshold

was the check engin light on at anytime for an o2 sensor code if so you need a new cat(catalytic converter) flash update i think was a way for a mechanic to get money from you unless it was warranty covered if your o2 was malfunctioning your car was mostlikely running rich which will plug up or burn out a cat

2002 jeep liberty speed sensor

Jeep Liberty 2002 woahs !
by porth21 - 2/1/09 7:35 AM In reply to: Jeep Liberty 2002 speedometer not working by Dannywon
I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty Limited with the same problem. The main problem I have found to be the routing of the speed sensor wires located on the rear difrential. They are 2 blue wires on my jeep and probably the same on yours. The problem is that they rub on the E-brake cable and once the wire is exposed they short and the speedometer and any other options running off they speed sensor quit working and that includes the tranny shift points and can cause the torque converter to not unlock and cause stalls. I am having the same problem for the third time and chrysler and jeep are both aware of the problem and unwilling to repair the problem or post a recall.
