I don,t know what you mean by banging noise but check your cv axle.

Banging noise when you drive


This is a hard problem to describe, I know, and I will toss out a few possibilities. If the noise occurs when the car is accelerating, it can be motor mounts, or carriage mounts on front-wheel drive vehicles. Transmissions can bang into gear. Drive shaft u-joints can bang before they fail. C-V joints in front wheel or 4 wheel drive units can bang when worn out.

The exhaust system can break loose and bang on the frame. Brake calipers can rock in their mounts and transmit sound. Tie-rod ends can make a knocking noise on every bump you hit. There were recalls on gas tank straps for some Ford made units, so a loose gas tank can bang.

Ok, I've never heard of this happening to someone. If you turn left or right and apply brakes there is no noise. That means that the front end is probably ok. If it doesn't seem loose that way.

If you have a Sears nearby take it to them so they can listen to this banging.

They probably won't charge to look at it.

check your boots. old ones wear out and let debris in. you may have to have the front axle replaced if you let it go too long but check your boot which should be behind your behind your wheels towards your motor

Grinding noise changes with speed stops when turned right. replaced left front wheel bearing. noise is still there. whats wrong ?


Does sound stop when you turn LEFT?

Turning RIGHT puts the heavy load on the LEFT front wheel.
That initially STOPPED the noise, correct? So why did you change L?

Turning LEFT puts the load on the RIGHT. Did you change the RIGHT?

Let's say this:
If turning RIGHT stops the noise, it's the RIGHT one that's likely bad.
If turning LEFT stops the noise, it's the LEFT one that's more likely bad.

Make sense? Turning RIGHT loads the LEFT wheel; and vice-versa as the WEIGHT SHIFTS AWAY FROM THE TURN.

More than likely it is what some folks call a CV joint problem, not wheel bearings. Try backing up and then going forward to see if "clunking sound" or a sharp "bang" is heard. Wheel bearings and CV joints only work if smooth. Sometimes a BEARING RACE is bad. Also, a bad spindle / part of the CV joint / transaxle assembly worn or badly machined. If in a WET ENVIRONMENT especially, u may want to try marine grade grease or teflon-added grease.

elf fi: I have a sneaky suspicion that you may have a bolt on a caliper missing. I might suggest that you jack the car up on the side in question and pull the wheel to look at the brakes. You don't have to be a tech to know if a part os missing, it should be obvious. The caliper is affixed to the car by two large bolts which go in from the back side. So you would have to look on the inside for the attaching bolts. There are two smaller bolts which attach the caliper to caliper mounting bracket, so make sure you look at both.
I have a method I had come up with when I was teaching collision repairs. I call it "SESAME STREETING". "what ever is on the left, should be on the right. Don't forget to make comparisons between opposite sides. Usually one should mirror the other. Most vehicle are symmetrical. Anyway, I would definitely be looking for a loose or missing fastener. hi you may have two problems.the banging noise can be either struts/shocks or ball joints.as for stiff steering can be either power steering. or ball joints.bad ball joints can make a banging moise and make it stiff when turnning the wheels.

SHAKING AND KNOCKING NOISE


it could be tht the exhaust pipe is loose and therefor makes shaking and kinda banging noise. hope i helped! ;-)
