Question about 2001 Oldsmobile Alero

1 Answer

Have an 01 alero 2.4 . when you start it, it is hard to start at first then it will start and idle up and down have replaced the throtle position sensor. but still does it do you think with 160,000 miles the timing chain could be stretched out a little throwing the timing off a little enough to make it sputter at idle. have changed allmost every thing on car.

sounds like either ur iac /or ur tps more then likly ur tps, throtle positioning sensor it controls ur feul intake more feul harder the engine runns, but iac idle air control it tells car more air higher idle less air tells tps less gas lower idle there all linked together have it put on a scanner that will narrow ur possiblities right down to the problem

1993 Olds v6 races when started. Replaced idle air valve. no change. Checked throtle position sensor. It seems to be working. Took to mechanic and he replaced the main computer and idle problem seemed to...

my 1994 had the same problem, where the TPS sensor connects there is a small rod that moves you should be able to see it without taking anything apart it wsa rusty and sticking so i sprayed it with wd-40 a couple of times and that solved the problem for me,don't know it that will help but maybe it's worth a try. or maybe your throtle cable to the gas pedal has worn a grove inside the cable and you can't see this problem, but atleast have it checked to see if it's sticking.

Engine kills when engine warm

You need to replace your IAC (idle air control valve). The IAC, like it sounds, control the idle of your car. When they go bad they will cause the low idle and stalling. The IAC is located on the throttle body and is usually held on with a couple of screws. It is an easy relatively cheap fix that you can take care of by yourself. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

Olds alero 2.4 idle fuel pressure

most likely idle air control sensor or low engine coolant I know sounds funny but IAC uses coolant to regulate idle. Idle air control valve or throttle body positioning sensor.
