If this car has the 2.5 24 dohc motor..Good Luck...Im not trying to be mean but there is a major task to remove this altenator from the car. The engineers at Ford thought of everything..except where do they put the altenator. Oh well we'll put it underneath the car, we wont have to fix it..ha ha.. Before you try to remove the Alt. Check the MAXI FUSE which is inline on the altenator wire to the battery. This fuse is located under the coil pak. Remove the 4 screws and lift the coil pack off. Look down the firewall about 8 " below the coils and there is a black box with red wires coming from opposite ends. One is from altenator, other is from battery. Inside the box is the fuse. Check continuity of the wires on each end the box. If there is continuity the fuse is ok and altenator is shot, if no continuity , the fuse is no good and you may not have to remove the altenator. ( but fuse blew for reason). If you need more info post again.

    Ok so If you have to remove the altenator from The Contour with a 2.5L motor you need about 5 hours or so and alot of patience. The altenator is located under the passenger wheel area. Put your car on jackstands and have it high enough to work comfortably under.(believe me you are about to embark on an adventure with Ford 's fine engineering.) You may want a pillow and blanket to lay on cause you are going to spent 3-5 hours under there. Ha Ha..First remove the terminal from the battery post to avoid shorting out the wires then remove the passenger tire, and if you are able to, remove the transaxle shaft in its entirety. Un bolt the 1-1/4" retaining nut from the outer end of the transaxle. There are two 13mm bolts on a flange(hangar brg.) midway that you need to remove to pull the shaft out. You can unbolt the lower ball joint from the swing arm(3 bolts 17mm) or just pop it off of the stem by removing the bolt that clamps it to the stem. this will allow enough clearance to remove the transaxle. The altenator is held on with 2 13mm head bolts about 3" long. The lower bolt is easy to remove with a socket and a swivel type ratchet handle. There also is a bracket on the rear of the alt. that has 1- 13mm bolt and 1- 10mm bolt in it. You need to remove this also. The top bolt is the hardest to remove. I used a 1/4" ratchet handle with a deep 13mm socket to remove this bolt. You will only be able to get 1 or 2 clicks at a time but it eventually comes out. You can try to swing the altenator to the back to gain more access to this bolt. Once the bolt is out you can manouvre the alt. out between the frame and swing arm, where you can unploug the connector and unbolt the battery lead fronm the back. also the single wire plugged in the back side area..and voila ther you have your altenator. You can buy a rebuild kit for it and do it yourself, or hav e it rebuilt by a local jobber. Or even just by a new or remanufactured one. Just make sure that it is good cause Im sure after doing this job you will not want to tackle it again..I think a garage would charge 300-400 dollars for this removal/replacement, not including parts. sounds like a alternater problem. with car off battery voltage should be at least 12.6 or better. less than 12 volts battery is bad. when running at battery, voltage should be at least 13.5 to 14.2 or better. take negative battery cable off while running, if car dies its the alternater. Good-Day! you can take alt, to any auto parts store to get it tested. advance,auto zone, etc.

How much to install.alternater. on 2005 nissan maxima


i dont know about the Maxima but I just did the one in my 2009 Toyota Matrix and it was all of 20 minutes.
in the process i blew a fuse that is taking a while to figure out but the alternator was super easy!!

simple solutions: battery won't accept the charge: take to orielly's and have them test both your battery and alternater. take both pos and neg terminals off and clean them, with coke-a-cola if you have nothing else. check the connection to your alternater to see if it is loose? good luck.

I put a new alternater in and as soon as I start it up the alternater fails. Alternater is installed properly and belt is installed properly but still fails. 84 toyota pickup 22r engine


check an see if you have a alt fuse blown it takes a little juice to the alt to make it put out juice what im saying is get a text light an see if you have power going to the alt its called an exiter wire you haft to exited the alt to get it started haha hope this helped

F350 2004 6.0 brand new alternator not charging new batteries , battery light stays on , what could I be missing?


Just cause its a new alternator does mean it should work. I would check the charge when running cause it could just be a bad alternator.

WORKING FROM THE FRONT; YOU NEED A SIZE 17 SOCKET ON A TBAR.THE ALTERNATER IS ON DRIVER SIDE AT THE BACK.THERE ARE THREE BOLTS TO LOOSEN (DONT TAKE THEM RIGHT OFF) . PULL THE ALTERNATER TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE CAR, SLIP BELT OVER CRANK PULLEY THEN OVER ALTERNATER PULLEY .LEVER ALTERNATER BACK TO TIGHTEN BELT,THEN RETIGHTEN 3 BOLTS

How do you take out an old alternator and install a new alternator in a 97 honda civic


From the top of the car remove the slide and anchor bolt from the alternater bracket. remove your 3 or 4 pin plug and diconnect the pos power line beside the 3 or 4 pin plug ( on the back of the alternater). now raise the car and from below remove the lower bolt that allows the alternater to swing back and forth. the bolt fits through the housing of the alternater. remove the belt. now the alternater is free. this lower bolt that was just removed attaches to a bracket bolted to the block. remove this bracket and the alternater will slide out of the bottom of the car. complete the above steps in reverse to install new part.

check to make sure there is a belt on the alternater take it to a local auto parts store to have them test your battery and alternater dont go to far though you might get stranded replace the alternater if its frading under 13.0 volts output
