Shifting hard from 1st to 2nd

Your transmission is computer controlled. The best way to find out why it is not shifting correctly is to scan your Powertrain Control Module (PCM) for possible fault codes. There are several Technical service bulletins (TSBs) published for your transmission. However, it is really necessary to retrieve fault codes to correctly determine which of these may or may not apply to your particular problem.
One bulletin that stands out in my mind is Technical Service Bulletin Number 07-07-30-024, which addresses hard/delayed 1-2 shifts and involves reconditioning of the valve body. But once again, it also addresses specific fault codes.

Shifts hard from 2nd to 1st, then dies when you stop

The transmission control module is adaptable. This is a real common complaint with the A604. You need to take the vehicle to a shop with a scan tool and have the TCM ran through a quick learn adaptive reset procedure. The dying problem is likely a bad crank sensor
