Question about 1995 Honda Accord

1 Answer

I just got a new used 1995 honda accord and already i'm really unhappy. The gears stick terribly and the breaks... you have to push down really hard and they don't break fast. What can i do about the gears sticking? Tell me i don't need a new clutch!

The gears are sticking? is the shifter just really tight and hard to move from one gear to the next, or even just wiggle around in neutral? if so, you may need new bushings for it. which are not very expensive. IF the shifter wiggles around easily in neutral, but hangs in a gear when you press the clutch in all the way, you could need a clutch, OR hopefully you can just try bleeding the clutch line. at the master cylinder on the transmission. the breaks.... do you have to push the pedal down really hard, or really soft and far? if you're putting a lot of pressure on the pedal but you don't have to push the brake pedal all the way to the floor, that would indicate to me that your pads and rotors are glazed over. you should replace the rotors, pads and have the calipers checked, and have the brakes bled. if you've got to push the pedal all the way to the floor, there's a good chance all you'll need is to have the brakes bled.

My 2004 Honda accord. the gear shift knob the release button broke and I can't get it into gear

All you really need to do is take out the broken know, make sure their aren't any broken pieces inside the shifter handle and use you finger to push the lever down so it could shift, thats it. :-)

Everytime I push on the break my horn goes off I can't put my car into any gear and my break lights don't work....this all happened in one day...I bought a stoplight switch and it doesn't help still got...

Spent too much already. Cut the brake light wires from the switch and run your own to the brake light wires in the harness. You have a short and this will bypass it.

1995 honda accord..transmission shifts hard.. true or false? if fluid has never been changed is it better not to change it..been told this by several people. I know it doesnt have a serviceable filter and...

in my opinion..if your milage is between 75K-140K I would try and just do a drain and fill and not a full exchange. If it is over 150K DO NOT TOUCH IT!!! See the deal is is that like oil, trans fluid is a fluid that breaks down and becomes bad after a certain amount of time. ANd once you put new fluid in, it breaks away all those containments, and metal particles and could do damage. so it is solely on you if you want to try it out or not. it could fix it, it could make it worst.

Sadly, fuzes really don't control the ability to change gears.  You need to take it to a repair shop...like Pep Boys.

96 manual honda accord- problems shifting into reverse

Is the tranny just hard to put into reverse? Check with mechanic and see if you need clutch adjusted. Also try pushing down on the shifter to bypass the safety. Most have to be pushed down from the top of the shifter in order to go in to reverse.

Car will start but gear shift is locked

follow instructions in manual for SHIFTLOCK RELEASE

Turn off car.
Engage Parking Break
Take ignition key and put into shift lock release slot (near gear shift)
Push down on key and at same time MOVE gear shift to neutral.
Remove key, start car as normal and disengage parking break...

good to go.... mechanic can replace/repair if this is an ongoing issue: $85 I read somewhere...but heard it's not hard to do yourself for $35 someone else wrote.
