Question about 2002 Mercury Cougar
This car is equipped with a P.A.T. (passive anti theft) system. There is no way for you to create another key that will work. The keys all have a small transponder chip in them.
The P.A.T. module must be accessed with the dealer scan tool to pair a new key with the car. It takes them about a 1/2 to do one. Might be a good idea to have them pair two keys at the same time as a backup.
