Question about 2002 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo S

2 Answers

I have a 2002 Volkswagen 1.8L GLS Beetle. The check engine light blinks and then goes steady, the engine idles smooth and then idles rough, spitting and sputtering. Once you drive it smooths out and the engine line stays on steady.

Can also be dirty injector. When computer recognizes the miss, the check engine light will come on, recording the active fault in memory. Advance auto will read the fault codes for you for free. Just a note: the light will reset after 3 complete warm up / cool down cycles if the fault no longer exists. If ignition checks good, take a hard look at those injectors. May need a cleaning. get the car diagnosed at the scan center. as per the codes the exact location and faulty part will be indicated. at its free to get car diagnosed. This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

yes it can be.but most probably its
the problem in injectors.that has to checked out.but getting the codes is very
much necessary.because check engine light comes for number of
getting the code will directly point you towards the exact faulty part.
there are many possibilities but this all has to be checkedBAD FUeL FILTER.BAD
possibilities and checking all the possibility is lot of time consuming and
money spending process and getting the car checked at diagnostic
    center is better
    its free to get codes.
Engine Light: What It Means and What To Do

check engine light (CEL) is a warning indicator: it means your car's computer
has determined that a component or system in your emission controls is not
    working properly. Every vehicle
manufactured to be sold in the
U.S. has to pass an Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) test procedure called the Federal Test Procedure. This sets the
acceptable limits of wear and/or failure for the emisson control
system —i.e., what conditions ultimately cause a Check Engine
Light to illuminate. These standards are closely regulated. If the
emission-control system is faulty and the vehicle is polluting the air, the
Check Engine Light illuminates to alert the driver of this condition. (A
vehicle in this condition would fail an emissions inspection or smog check.)Don't
confuse the Check Engine Light with the maintenance or service light. These
lights illuminate when a routine service is due. They are usually triggered by
mileage, gallons of gasoline consumed, or some other type of vehicle-use

The Check Engine Light light comes on and blinks in a steady
    pattern while driving.
    Don't confuse
this steady pulsing of the Check Engine Light light (usually one or more
flashes per second) with a flicker (see above). The Check Engine Light may stay
on steadily, or it may flash when the vehicle is accelerated. This is very serious. There is a severe failure of the
emission-control system that is causing the engine to misfire to the point that the catalytic converter is damaged each time the Check Engine
Light flashes. It may mean that the catalytic converter is overheating to the point that it
will glow red or, in extreme cases, start a fire on the underside of the
vehicle.Immediately pull over to a safe place and have
your vehicle towed to an automotive diagnostician for repair. Vehicles can be
severely damaged and even destroyed by fire if this condition is ignored for
    too long.

and some of them have a recall on them that is good to 100000 miles so that would be the best thing to have checked first because if it is under the recall it can be done by a dealer for free

In order to know what fault code is stored there, I suggest scanned the PCM to know it. Note this code number and send us for diagnostic additional and solution details .

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

I acclerated quickly in my 2003 VW Beetle & the check engine light came on. It's not flashing, just steady. The manuel said the light would go off once the engine idle steadied, but it did not.

that could be an over boost trouble code thrown by the MAP sensor alot of the ford powerstroke trucks do it and sometimes the light comes on and then goes right off other times it will stay on for a few days nothing to really worry about as long as everything is working as it should hope this helps
