Really there are bolts holding the wipers down strongly to the body of the car.

Consider having a look at those bolts as they are visible as are positioned on the wipers. Naturally they are like black covers but with inner threadings on the base of the wipers when you decide to pull them upright.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya.

Replacing the whole wipers should do the trick and do remember that the bolts that holds the wipers to the car should be well tightened.

Good luck and do rate this solution threads.

I turned on the wipers while windshield was iced and they did not work due to ice.

From your description of events, chances are, your wiper motor burned out, or the gears stripped, either way you're most likely looking at a new wiper motor. Blades frozen to the windshield, or trying to clear deep or heavy snow with wipers put a lot of strain on the motor and will very often cause it to burn out. The upside is if you are confident enough to try it yourself, most wiper motors are relatively easy to replace, and depending on your vehicle, it shouldn't be a horribly expensive part to purchase. Hope this helps, Good Luck :)

Drierside wiper not working

if just one wiper arm is working then there might be something wrong with the linkage between the two wiper arms. there is only one wiper motor so if one arm is working that eliminates it as the problem. also check the connection between the wiper arm and the linkage. if you can move the arm when the wipers are off the connector may be stripped out. this happens a lot in the winter when people try to clear a heavy load of snow from the windshield with the wipers. it might also be just be loose and need adjustment

I heard a pop noise after trying to use them after some snow fall and the windshield whippers dont work anymore

your wipers were probably frozen to the windshield, and when you turned them on the gear snapped. future reference, if you know its going to be snowing or dropping below freezing, put your wipers up away from the windshield and you wont have this issue.

One side of my wipers is not in sync or is moving faster and moving to far over into the driver side wiper messing it up should i replace the motor

jhigh09, It does not sound like your wiper moyor is the problem. your passenger side wiper arm or stud might be stripped . To remove the arm, there is a spring clip where the arm is attached to the stud, With a small screwdriver pry the clip away from the stud and inspect the wiper arm and the stud. They have very small splines on them. If one or both are stripped, Replace them. To avoid this problem in the future, make sure you clear your windshield of snow /ice . that is commonly the cause of this type of failure. Also, Make sure you turn the wipers off when you park your truck. When you start up in the morning you will forget there on, i have and your wipers frozen with ice and snow will try to break loose and some damage. Hope i was of some help.

My windshield wipers will not work but i hear the motor trying to work. what does this mean? are they totally broke or is there a simple fix?

Sounds like the link rod has popped off or the wiper arm nuts need tightened. When the wipers freeze to the windshield and you start the wipers to clear the snow this will either strip out the wiper arms or pop the linkage rod off. Always pull the wipers away from the windshield before you start the wiper motor in cold weather to be sure they are not frozen to the windshield. Ok how to repair. Grab the wiper arms and see if they freely move in thier normal pattern with power off. Do they move independantly of each other ? If your lucky the nut holding the arms to the pivot just needs tightened. At the base of each arm is a black cover you have to pry up th see the nut. If not remove the wiper arms and inspect to see if they are stripped out. If they are stripped out bad enough you may have to replace them. If not then the linkage has popped off beneath the drainage grill. To see the link rods move look down thru the grill with the wiper motor running and the wiper arms off and you may see the rod flopping around. Now pry the plastic grills off, with the power off, left side first to get to the rod. Look to see if the plastic retainer in the end that fell off is still ok if so just line it up and give it a smack to pop it back on to the ball stud. If the shaft that is installed onto the motor is spinning but not moving the rod the motor must be replaced. Oopen hood and remove three bolts holding the motor to the firewall to remove it. Just reverse the process to reinstall. Thanks for asking at

Windshield wiper for rear window does not work we can hear a clicking sound come from the motor of the rear windshield wiper

If you hear a clicking sound, then you know you have power. Check to see if the motor arm is moving any at the wiper arm.The small cap that covers the wiper arm to motor can be pulled apart, to see if the nut is loose or if the gear housing is stripped on the wiper arm, or if the motor drive is stripped. These are say to check and are cost effective for you.

Does the wiper motor run? If you can hear the wiper motor run, the wipers arms may have disconnected from the wiper motor, you will have to remove the wiper arms, and the plastic cover to access the wiper motor, and check for damaged parts. If your wiper motor does nothing at all, you probably blew a fuse do to the resistance on the arms, refer to your owners guide for fuse panel, and fuse locations. hope this helps

see if the transmission arms for the wiper motor are moving when the wiper motor is on. The bolts that hold the arms to the motor may be loose or stripped out from the heavy know. The threads for these bolts are thin and don't take much to strip.

Windshield wiper

Check to see if the wiper motor moves the passenger side. If so, You may need to tighten the nut that connects the arm to the motor. Mine was stripped out because or snow & ice. So, I went to home depot and found a lock washer to fit.
