If everything is working fine, check to see if the security light is on when you try to start it. if so, its your gas shut off feature. i don't know why it happens, as mine does this to me all the time for no reason. turn your key to ON, and leave it there for 10 minutes. when the security light goes off, turn the key to off, and then try and start your car, that should work. (however, it might need to be left at ACC instead of ON for those 10 mins, not positive... but im pretty sure it goes to ON) ....

an alternator wont help if you battery is shot or very low charge, charging battery from just alt is not recommended.if you use a jump from a good 12volt source and it stays running more than likely it's your battery

The first thing I would do is clean your battery connections very good. you may have to remove the plastic covers off the cable ends to get them cleaned good. Also make sure you get the connection bolts tight.

2003 pontiac grand am 3.4 having problems with ignition.put new ignition now it wont start because of the theft system.does the new ignition need to be programed?

Yes the system has to be programmed and you can do this yourself.Just make sure the battery is fully charged and attempt to start then release the key but do not turn it off just release it as if it had started.the security light will remain on for about 10 minutes and then go off. After it goes off.Turn the ignition off and wait 5 seconds. Then turn the key on and start the car.It should start and run now.The body control module has learned the new key.Hope this helps.Good luck.

by the sounds of it the altanator is putting out enough voltage to keep the car running I my self don't think that it's the alt but the battery, if you don't know the age than it's not a bad idea to replace the battery. if the problem is still there than I would test the alt, should be putting out 14.6 volt at all times. but replace the battery first.

2002 Pontiac Grand prix wont start; unable to remove key

On many cars, if the battery is dead, it locks the key in the ignition. Put a battery charger on the car or replace the battery and give it a shot.

Good luck.
