HI, I have golf tdi 1.9 2002. I just noticed fluid leaking inside the car round the clutch area. What would be the issue, It is seal or a unit to replace.

clutch fluid level droppin means that ur clutch master cylinder is leaking,u can check by looking inside car where pushrod goes thru firewall to see if its wet with brake fluid where rod comes thru wall inside car, a wet ,stained carpet.the other possibility is ur clutch slave cylinder located at side of ur transmission,usually drvr side is leaking fluid.if this is the case u will notice clear brake fluid at the bottom center of ur trans,right where it butts up towards ur engine. anyhow its a good idea to replace both pieces at same time to avoid any further issues with clutch pedal. good luck hope this helps
It sounds to me as you have a leaking clutch cylinder? Have you checked under the bonnet to see where the leak has come from? If you find it too difficult above the vehicle, then make sure that you are safe getting under the vehicle to check where the leak is coming from. Your description points to clutch issue if it will not go into gear OR POSSIBLY linkage issue, so make sure that there are no fluid cylinders other than the master cylinder with leaks. It may be you do not have to replace the cylinder, but purchase a kit of seals to do the job. You then detach the faulty cylinder and check it's seals if you feel competent. Check the cylinder is not pitted inside as this would allow fluid to bypass the seal. Once this cylinder is repaired or replaced you will need to top it up with CLUTCH AND BRAKE fluid. UNLESS your model has specific manufacturers instructions as to what to use. Check with your local automotive store. If you can,
have the vehicle raised at the front if you are doing the work on stands or ramps. BE SAFE. If you get it done, then it will need fluid put back in and then someone will need to sit inside the vehicle and pump the clutch pedal until they feel resistance has increased. DO NOT over fill. Keep topping up as the level drops. I leave my own vehicle to stand to allow any air bubbles to rise to the top of the cylinder. Hope this helps.
Is the clutch fluid reservoir empty? If so you have a leak as the fluid will not appreciably go down even with years of use. Check around the foot well inside the car and around the reservoir tank for signs of fluid loss. If the foot well carpet is soaked it is likely the master cylinder seal needs replacing. If the area around the reservoir is wet then the union from the reservoir or to the pipe connected to the slave cylinder needs to be tightened from the reservoir. If there is no sign of a leak then the leak is associated with the clutch slave cylinder, either at the pipe union, the bleed nipple or the cylinder seal. The first two will be obvious to identify on the cylinder itself. The seal leak may well be indicated by drips coming from the junction between the gear box bell housing and the engine block. The slave clutch can usually be refurbished with a repair kit that includes a new seal. Take care when removing the clutch fluid feed pipe not to bend or damage it so that it can be easily re-used when reinstalling the salve cylinder.
There is, however, an air outlet into the driver's foot area. If the heater core is leaking, the air coming through the heater core will carry the droplets into the entire air ducting system. The driver's foot area may be the closest outlet. If it smells like coolant, you need to replace the heater core regardless of where in the cabin the coolant is coming out.
looking close to 1000 for whole clutch possibly more depends on where you go. is it the master or the slave cylinder if slave is leaking you will need whole clutch brake fluid will ruin clutch
Hi I am Vortash it sounds to me that your Thrust bearing on the clutch actuator arm is damaged , it is probably worn and not pushing evenly or that the cable is rusty and in need of repalcement ( hence the squeaking ? ) the cable may even be stretched ..some jettas in this country also had Hydraulic clutches and this would point to a leak ( damaged rubber seals or slave or master cylinder rubbers leak ) or air bubble , or low fluid level not actuating the thrust arm properly

if its into the front passenger footwell i had this too, inside thwe door closure where the hinges fix is a small rubber hose that funnels water from the sunroof down the apillar in a tube and out, if thats blocked it will run into the car also it could be coming in throught the window seal inside the door and out just inside the door closure area.
